I’ve bought this bottle a few years ago and it took me those few years to reach the end. I don’t think it oxidized too much so I’d cross out oxidization influence from my notes. It’s not a bad whisky, but it’s not great. It feels fake and designed, and on the colour it clearly is. It’s nice to sip, easy to even, but it misses some honesty. And I’m not just snobbish just because it’s full of caramel.

Citrus at first, vanilla, grape, cinnamon, the sherry half of the last 3 years of maturation are here. Caramel and dried fruits, a slight touch of solvent in the background, wood polish, orange marmalade and brioche from Vendée.
    • Taste
      78 78
Citrusy and slightly spicy arrival, some lemon zest and grapefruit, orange, dark chocolate with salt crystals, and oak sap. The mouthfeel is quite thin but not as much as you would expect from this low abv. Then vanilla and a wee pinch of pepper at the end.

      79 79
Medium long, on oranges, oak spices and unsweetened cocoa powder.

One of the softest single malt whiskys I've ever had in my glass. Was almost of the opinion that it does not contain alcohol. I have fond memories of it and will buy it again someday.

n: sherry, red fruit/berries, citrus, orange, little red apple
t: little dry, sherry, oak, chocolate
a: fruit, sherry, spices - no oak (interesting)

Tasted during a Dalmore Masterclass. Nice starter. A lot of sweetness balanced with citrus notes. Taste and finish suffering a lot of the low abv. Feels younger then 12 years. A bit of a split personality, am i a bourbon matured whisky or a sherry finished one ?

The nose is the best part about this dram, provided you don't swirl or move it too much. It is very much a 'designed' flavour and aroma profile, so a decent introduction to the world of (sherry cask) single malts, but obviously nothing for advanced palates.
It's biggest flaw is this literal 'hole' on the mid-palate, to me there was nothing detectable but a very 'smooth' alcoholic liquid.
This is a lot better than the 15yo, but it seems to me that Dalmore overall completely lacks character and complexity.

Tasting note belongs to a bottle with bottle code L8213.
    • Nose
plum jam, a little dusty at first, a little flinty malt (traces of sulphur), a little mint, some cocktail cherries, some marzipan/persipan, when swirled lots of oak sap emerges as well as some cardboard, after settling down again a little milk chocolate, a little blood orange.
    • Taste
sweet arrival, oily, smooth, plum syrup and a little oak sap in the front, on the mid-palate a big 'hole' as in nothing happening there, at last on the tail some flavours do emerge, flinty maltiness accompanied by some burnt orange slices. Nice fat body overall without any alcoholic edge to it, but there's a literal 'trench' between front and tail palate, something I've never experienced with any kind of spirit before. Overall it feels very 'designed', and it's 'smooth' in a negative sense.
    • Finish
some plum, a little marzipan/persipan again, some apricot, still a bit flinty, short.

Ah, Dalmore Dalmore, what are we going to do with you? Very cool bottle design. But alas, the liberal use of E150a makes this 12 year-old less than ideal. Tasting notes optional.

I recommend drinking your shot of Dalmore with a chaser of beer that contains a nice, healthy amount of formaldehyde. Hey, you only live once. Tagay!

sweet, fruity and spicy. Lots of cherry and still surprisingly strong for only 40%.

    Very neat.

N- On one recent gathering, sip on this again and were pleasantly surprised by how good it had become, not quite the same but far better than I remembered when I last had it 4 years ago. Enticing ripen banana, rose apple with curry leaves and crushed nuts, not as heavily "olorosso" with puffy leather so to says. Whiff of dirty notes which were quite perfect that surely lifted the depth of this core range. Scrumptious and generous dried fruits, resin developed at the right time and get menthol-y in a nice pace. Juicy, herbs and buddha fruit emerged with dash of peppercorn. (89/22)

P- Firm grip with solid dryness, subtle spices with juicy rose apple with rising smokes. Liquorice sweetness whirling on for full mouth coat. Not carry on too far but more than adequate. (87/21)

F- Medium, peppery, nutty, toffee and pleasantly spicy. (86/20)

    B/B- 87/21

    Cereal- 1, Fruity- 3, Floral- 1, Peaty- 0, Feinty- 1, Sulphury- 0, Woody- 3, Winery- 2, Spicy- 2
