    • Nose
On the first nose, we are completely in the world of bourbon barrels, with this honeyed aspect, on icing sugar and vanilla. Then we have citrus, orange, it's also slightly lemony. Its pastry, brioche flavors make me think of a passage in new barrels, even if that is not the case. It is also to a certain youth that we probably owe this. This is a simple but welcoming nose.
    • Taste
The mouth is in perfect continuity with the nose. Mixture of honey, vanilla and this always sensation of icing sugar. Pastry still, with lemony citrus fruits, but also orange blossom water. Its volume of alcohol corresponds well to its wise style and its simplicity. It is a whisky that will be consumed in all types of circumstances. It remains in a tenable value for money range, with a maximum price limit of €75, let's say it's just right. Pear liqueur, progressively fatter.
    • Finish
More mineral, with a menthol sensation. It's something that I appreciate. Relatively long finish. Not radically different from the nose or the mouth. Honey and vanilla, orange.

1664) Wolfburn, Small Batch No.375, Half Size FF Bourbon & SF Oloroso Hogsheads, Release 2019
    • Nose
N- Grassy-sweet lead to dollops of cola candy. Feeling nostalgic and down the memory lane to a long gone afternoon, when I am still in white shirt/olive green trouser and she in her white shirt/pinafore turquoise uniform, sharing a frizzy root beer float with Walls vanilla ice cream and enjoying air-cond in A&W, exaggerated!? But the feeling is nice, whisky is about memory as how it should have been. Back to the dram, scents of spice dusted pastry, honey and cloves chips in, and drifts casually on to a faint leather at the tail. (86/20)
    • Taste
P-In line with the bouquet, delicate with lifting bitter note to chew it over, raisin chocolate lurking with scents of soothing honey and soft spice from the oaks. Well layer and enjoy the two oak types that vatted purposefully for this batch. (87/21)
    • Finish
F- Medium, waxy with increasingly vibrant toasted nuance, then came the juicy sweet candy before capped finely by crisp dryness. (86/20)

B/B- 87/21 Wee light on nose even at 46%, hoped to try the higher strength Langskip soon.

      Weighted Rate- 82pt

A successful whisky, but one that still shows its young age. A little water makes it rounder, more harmonious.
I'm looking forward to Wolfburn's first 10 year old.
    • Nose
Sweet like sherry and strong honey
    • Taste
Light oak notes, vanilla, sherry, caramel
    • Finish
Medium length, slightly warming with caramel

Brutal vanilla and strong citrus, sherry only very light. Sweet, honey and malt.
    • Taste
      83 83
Smooth rounded to oily with sparkling. Wood, fruit, vanilla, citrus and distant traces of licorice.
    • Finish
      82 82
Slightly spicy, woody that goes dry and slightly bitter. A little rye and bourbon.

    Quite firm and pretty drinkable
    • Nose
      84 84
Fruity, citric, honey, little malty, dry hay
    • Taste
      86 86
Punchy, oily, subtle sweetness, more citrusy, orange zest, honey, spices - not bad
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium long, warm, zesty, more punchy

    • Nose
Strong in line with the last few whiskys tested, at least initially. On apples and pears but with the bonus of very pleasant notes of mandarins and sour cherries very present. A touch of vanilla. Fresh, summery and gourmet, it starts well ????
    • Taste
A small bomb of vanilla aromas, bourbon effect hyper present. Soft, almost creamy, especially on apples. Very light woody and spicy touch, the sherry effect is very shy. Not as "sparkling" and rich as on the nose.
    • Finish
At first glance I would have said short but in fact no, it is rather average to long but very discreet. Woody, too simple and too discreet.

    Not Wolfburn's best release...
    • Nose
Vanilla-bomb. At first at least. Honey takes over after a little while, when there's finally something going on. Apple skin, notes of cherries and a whiff of sultanas, but oak-y notes are omni-present as well. Soft floral notes as well.
    • Taste
Somewhat creamy to start with soft notes of apple and vanilla custard, quickly followed by oak tannins and bitterness, as well as cloves and coconut shavings.
    • Finish
Hints of sweetness, caramel-glazed apple, honey. Short to medium in length.

  17. ARDBERG scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

The nose can't hide its youth, not much complexity. Reminds my of apple Schnapps from Nepal in the Annapurna region, then a cherry note appears.
Vanilla, wood spices, something immature and a unusual sherry note. Short+ finish despite chewing my teeth out. Just leaves sweetness a numbed tongue and warmth.

Water brings out more apple but makes it considerably flatter in the taste and finish and even less complex (didn't think this would be possible but it is).

    5cl sample.

It's perfectly alright. Apple notes and slight bitter notes. Short, unspectacular finish

  19. 2ndSip scored this whisky 80 points Expert Senior

fruity on the nose and very soft with a sherry note in the taste.
    • Nose
      85 85
fruity, has something of green and red apple (rather bright fruits / drupes). Heather honey and notes of vanilla as well as milk chocolate and plum. Something floral (going towards lavender for me) is still in the background.
    • Taste
      80 80
very soft, sweet and fruity, with a honey note. Some oak and sherry.
    • Finish
      75 75
slight sherry note remains together with some oak and spice. Stays medium to long. Gets drier out the back.

Aroma: fresh, sweet, malty, slightly cooling alcohol, coconut, vanilla, honey, juicy apple, light citrus notes, red berry fruit in the background
Taste: sweet, honey, vanilla, apple, peppery, spicy oak of sherry is then strong forward, subtly raisins and walnut
Finish: medium long, oak which goes bitterly towards coffee and gets a little dry
