Fascinating Laddie. Very multi-faceted with many flavors that you can gradually discover. Very complex, wonderfully balanced and varied for a young age.

Fresh grain notes, vanilla, light tropical fruits, citrus fruits, a little caramel, great honey sweetness, very floral, light chocolate, juicy fresh apples, a little tangy and fresh, light roasted wood notes. After the first sip, you discover vanilla cream, light fresh tobacco notes, light crème brûlée, beautiful sweet fruits, slightly maritime touch.

A simple, clean, and uncomplicated dram that acts as a good introduction to this fine distillery. I can think of few (if any?) other distilleries that provide a 50% ABV for their standard offerings.

On the nose : liqueur, some honeyed cake, vanilla, dry wood. Overall shy. After some time a little exotic fruits comes through, like a touch of unripe melon.
In mouth : attack is punchy, raw spices. Smoother notes in the distance, earthy or farm-like. Bitter cocoa and alcohol getting more prominent as the spices make place. Definitely young.
Finish : dry, on bitter cocoa. Gets even sour and leaves you with a lot of spices on tongue and palate.

I liked this year's Port Charlotte Islay Barley so I decided to try my luck with this bottle. I guess it's more spirit-oriented and not in the trend of cask-driven whisky. I like the idea behind it but not the result. Still will surely try my luck again with Bruichladdich.

Like the Classic Laddie it starts with an astringent drizzle and then the cereals emerge, but it's very fruitful too, with melon, grapes, mango, a hint of lemon and vanilla to support it all. A very earthy touch, lime, the balance is established, between greed and earth. On the palate, it is creamy, delicate, quite pastry, easy to drink, almost floral, it looks like drinking rose water, it goes by itself and we enter a long and slightly minty finish, anise, a touch of earth and chives.

The nose shouts out "local barley" and "terroir" and is definitely the highlight here. The palate is simpler but after a few sipping it's definitely tasty and quaffable.
Good job and vive le terroir !

A walk in the fields with fresh hay, grass and earthy notes (a peat bog is probably not far). But you brought a fruits basket with you : apples, pears, peaches, apricots, lemons and grapefruits.
    • Taste
      88 88
The attack is punchy, zesty and spicy (pepper and cloves). Next sippings are still spicy but oily, malty, fruity (citrus, apples), slightly mineral and salty too.
    • Finish
      88 88
      Long, spicy and zesty.
