  2. Sandman scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Hint of sulfur, rubber band, a mix of dark fruit, chocolate, orange, nuts, grass, butterbabbler.
    • Taste
Blueberries, cherries, raisins, chocolate, nuts, a hint of elastic, orange, a bit of grapefruit, cream boat chatter, cut grass and breakfast cereals.
    • Finish
Medium, warming, nuts, cereal, oaky, chocolate, dried fruit, grapefruit, orange peel, sour cherries, blueberries and a hint of elastic.

  3. Bam scored this whisky 83 points Expert Junior

The sour note is extremely strong, but quite nice and pleasant.
    • Nose
Initially a sweet mix of caramel and vanilla, slowly joined by a fruity note that develops from red apple to sour, red berries (currants). Behind it I discover a note that goes Curry, but sweeter. The oak is rather discreet. The alcohol is relatively poorly integrated, and stands out clearly.
    • Taste
Sweet apples, but noticeably sour. Add a little lemon. A touch of vanilla is here. The extreme sour note does not let me find any more flavors.
    • Finish
Short finish. They still eat apples, along with some delicacy from the oak.

    A very nice whisky.
    • Nose
      Colour:
      Amber

      Nose:
Begins nicely with a pleasant lovage touch. Then it gets a little fresher in the glass. Lemon, some cinnamon and damp wood. Then it gets fruity. Raspberries, pickled plums and some figs. A sour berry note lies behind it and slowly comes to the front. Reminds me of blackcurrants. In addition a little wet hay.
    • Taste
Pfeffriger start, without being really hot. Then come cinnamon, raisins and stuff like dry wood. Again the raspberry. With some dark chocolate and dry seasoning. At the second sip more spice, in addition to sour jam. The taste reminds me of Ringlo.
    • Finish
Medium to long. First something nutty. Then more dried fruit and a pleasant, sweetish wood taste.

Like its 15-year-old sibling, a rather peppery and sharp affair without water. Displays some potential but it's hard to find the sweet spot, dilution-wise. I for one don't like to spend that much time tinkering with H2O in a mass-market, mainstream bottling so this one's not for me.

First impression: too closed-up and shy for the price (upwards of 75 € for an 18 y.o. from distillery with no exceptional reputation). Time in the glass changes next to nothing about that initial shyness. Some faint cookie aroma (Oreo cookies, my girlfriend suggests), sour berries (redcurrant, cranberry), a bit of umami (soup seasoning, fennel. etc.), chocolate, and some nice, very clean wood notes. All good and well, but it's just so ... soft. Water makes things fruitier, coaxes out coffee and cocoa, and adds a splash of citrus. Loses a bit of its darker aspects though, so I'm not sure I like the trade-off.

Harsh without water (like the 15-year-old), but appealing notes of cranberry and dark game sauces shine through immediately. With water: pappadam bread (including the cracked black pepper), sweet orange juice, berry fruits. Becomes more inviting, but also less interesting while shedding its darker, more sherried aspects.
    • Finish
      84 84
Without water: creamy and sweet, with dark sauces and red fruits. Long. With water: Sweet (almost aspartam-y) fruits, sweet and sour.

N- Relaxing afternoon tea in a wood log cabin with Italian almond, egg tart, brandy filled pralines and berries jam and marmalade on scones. Spice jar, more cardamon than clove in this one. Small curry snacks bite with yoghurt. Nice savoury sweet in this one with broad woody sphere. (87/21)

P- Nice grip, quite impressive dried fruits rising to the nose, the gentle woody coat, sweet ginger comes with hints of phenol and liquorice. (87/21)

F- Medium, direct, dry and clean. Gently spicy and juicy fruits harbored on the faint spices. (86/20)

B/B- 87/21 Modern feels but nothing too wrong with this one, just lack of stamina and complexity to evolve further, which I would expected it so for a 18YO.

    Cereal- 2, Fruity- 3, Floral- 1, Peaty- 0, Feint- 0, Sulphur- 0, Woody- 3, Winery- 2
