a successful "debut work", young but round whisky with a few edges that knows how to please. Honestly, I find the sherry notes almost a bit out of place, although I can not say whether they are only responsible for the cardboard notes, or even for the beautiful honey notes. The price is unfortunately rather unacceptable for pure enjoyment.
    • Nose
sweet notes of honey, a nice spice, bright fruits, green apples, citrus, but also a slightly musty cardboard / wood note, maybe the sherry, which does not show itself so dominant.
    • Taste
surprisingly strong, fresh, sparkling, citrus notes, a beautiful firmness, tart, astringent, always with the honey notes in the game.
    • Finish
Here comes again the light cardboard note, musty sherry, but also some pine needles, bitter-sweet, fruity, citrus, sparkling. At the end of the long finish, the sherry shows up.

Judging by the color and the taste, they tried to get the maximum cask influence out of a three-year-old single malt. However, I would wish for the first bottling of a distillery that the barrel and distillery character harmonize better with each other.

    • Nose
The entry into the nose is surprisingly strong and complex for such a young whisky. Immediately you have sweet PX sherry in the nose, but this is very quickly pushed aside by a woody note and spice. The spice immediately reminds me of coffee or cappuccino. After the first taste, the fruits push themselves more to the fore. It reminds me of ripe apples and berries and a little citrus. The sweetness makes me think of a strong honey with the spice. The longer you hold your nose in the glass, the more the woody note is reminiscent of resin, pine needles and menthol.
    • Taste
The attack on the tongue is no less strong than on the nose. Here, the wood and spice note that is evident during the nosing is clearly hidden behind the sweetness and the fruit. These seem a bit more exotic to me on the tongue.
    • Finish
After swallowing, the spice of the oak comes back. The sweetness fades surprisingly quickly on the finish, leaving some oak, dark chocolate and roasted coffee behind. I would describe the finish as medium long.

It is malty, dusty and slightly sweet in the glass, accompanied by hints of nuts and some leather. Discreet pear skin lies in the background.

Slightly tingling and sweet and sour in the mouth.

In the finish, a chocolatey oak note spreads over elegant sherry notes and a handful of nuts. A subtle wood spice lays over everything.
    Length: 4/10

Interesting bottling, which unfortunately cannot quite hold its own with the expectations of the sherry paper form.

    Grade: 2

    I tasted this whisky blindly.

    I struggled with the evaluation.
The nose gave me the fruity sweetness, blackberry and cherry first came to my mind, placed in a rum pot with a lot of red wine in it.

The dram felt completely different on the tongue. It got peppery, the alcohol content came through a bit too much, in addition to the sweetness there was oak and a light earthiness.
The sherry influence is definitely there, the octave part does the rest.
    Nose: 23
    Key: 21
    Finish: 20
    Total package: 20
    = 84
Conclusion: I wouldn't buy it now, somehow it wasn't really coherent, the nose was still the most interesting there.

Too much PX dominated. Otherwise ok for a 3 yo. I am sure this dram would benefit greatly from a higher strength.

Time was beneficial as well - it trended towards the sweet PX Bunnas, which astucall is not a bad thing - if you like sweet PX...

Well, could have been better, could have been worse...

The Eden Mill Single Malt 2018 Release is the first in an annual series which will build over the coming years. We thought it was only appropriate to release this whisky on St Andrews Day.

The 2018 Release represents the ultimate blend of some of the best 'honey' casks our distilling team have chosen.

The golden-amber expression comes from a mix of golden promise and propino barley strains and represents the ultimate blend of some of the best ‘honey’ casks Eden Mill’s distilling team have chosen.

Young casks have been selected, varying in both size and style including, four of the finest Olorosso Sherry hogsheads, four outstanding ex-bourbon first fill American standard barrels and a few exceptional octave barrels which previously held Pedro Ximinez sherry.

The whisky is presented in a premium crisp, white box – perfect for those looking to add to their whisky collection this festive period.

There will be only 3,200 bottles of this special liquid bottled. We know that demand will be far greater than that but we did not want to compromise on quality for quantity. For that reason we have to limit the numbers purchased to 2 per person.

We do hope this bottling will be the beginning of an exciting journey for whisky drinkers with Eden Mill Single Malt whisky.
