Whisky reviews for Port Ellen 1982 OB

4 users have left 4 reviews for this whisky. Average rating is 81.04 points.

  1. Glenrod scored this whisky 81 points Expert Senior

Had it in a glass years ago as part of the whisky cup in the Cutty Sark forum.
Found it to be fairly flat and none of us involved came across Port Ellen in any way.
    A rather atypical PE.

  3. Gloin scored this whisky 94 points Expert Senior

Nose: Wow, very complex. Gum, sweetened lemon and grapefruit, sweet tobacco, some vanilla and of course smoke, iodine, maritime. Smells great, you do not have to drink, the smell alone is the pure pleasure. The alcohol is present but not dominant. When smelling no water is needed.

Mouth: Sharp start, but the sharpness decreases quickly. Again I find the lemons, and he is amazingly sweet. The mouthfeel is silky smooth, the alcohol hardly noticeable, Nevertheless, I have the feeling to drink seawater. Oak is here. Above all, thin clouds of smoke float. He looks young and at the same time old, harmonious and mature and at the same time wild. Shortly before swallowing the sharpness comes back again.

Finish: Long but not forever. A tingling remains on the tongue and on the palate sticks delicate bitterness. There remains a memory of burned sugar.

Conclusion: I have really tried unbiased to get to the whisky, but I must say (unfortunately): an outstanding whisky, very complex, wild and still soft, heaven and hell in a glass. Great. Maybe today I just have a good day, but I have 94 points

  4. Sonett scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

Or it is different perception of how to use the 100p scale.

In an objective judgement also a whisky I do not like can get a high score.

  5. checkpointuk did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    rates from 10 up to 93 ???
There are perhaps bad ( spoilt ones ) and good bottles at the market.
I don´t believe that the whole cask was bad.
The same happens to the Ardbeg SMWS 33.73. This one i tasted in the Hotel Bero in Oostende. It was pretty good. The best 10y Ardbeg i ever tried.
