    A whisky that is almost what the SMWS say it is - tasty as hell!
    • Nose
      Cinnamon, dried fruits & herbs, anise, neopolitan ice-cream with hints of dried lawn cuttings.
    • Taste
      Red wine, light sherry, sweet malt.
    • Finish
      Orange, lightly spicy, medium length.

    Interesting experiment but not a go-to whisky; what is impressive on the nose seems to fall apart in the delivery with two separate camps fighting it out rather than working together for your benefit

      sharp and spirity; coming back to the glass it has opened up, wow, is that blackcurrant?, cranberries. No sharpness or acid now. Like a soft cabernet

      warming, a little spicy already and syrupy as well; quite an immature wine sharpness as well - like drinking red wine on a plane
    • Finish

      medium; rather odd in that the wine finish seems to be battling with the whisky; there is maltiness there but it is unconvincing as far as integration goes

    with water, the brighter fruit notes are more emphasized, the vanilla is clearer, overall, he gains on addition of water

    Conclusion: The nose is great, a successful combination of red fruit flavors from the finish and the tomato-typical apricot notes, he gains me some water and hand warmth. The Pfeffrigkeit in the mouth bothers me but a little, and therefore clouded the overall impression

      creamy and luscious nose, redcurrant and wild strawberry, then apricots, orange peel and caramel. Also some cookie dough comes through, vanilla, and very light oak flavors (cloves and a bit too much toasted bread)

      now rather black currant, dried apricots, more oak and neat pepper ... too much pepper
    • Finish

      medium to long, getting dry, the oak is much stronger here, the pepper is still there but not bitter, a little nut, toffee and red fruits

    SMWS Tasting Notes: We found the nose complex and alluring – cranberries, redcurrants, strawberries and rhubarb rock; apricot jam and Neapolitan ice-cream; orange muscat and Zinfandel rosé. The chewy, substantial palate gave us pomegranate syrup, orange, apple, blackcurrant and dried apricot, with a warming pink peppercorn and moist gingerbread finish. The reduced nose took us to an old-fashioned ice-cream parlour – toasted coconut, mango sorbet, monkey’s blood, etc. The palate now – ‘tasty as hell’ – rhubarb crumble, Amarena cherries, chocolate mousse and strawberry creams; port wine, and cinnamon sticks on the finish. After 10 years in ex-bourbon wood we transferred this into a first-fill red wine barrique.
