Ah yes, another first fill oloroso sherry cask Mortlach. I must state before writing this review that i have been a huge fan of these ultra sherried cigar malts (biased).. Sadly rumours has this as the last cigar malt..
    - This did not disappoint.

BAM - right of the bat heavy but yet fresh sherry - like you would expect from a cigar malt from 1997. A bunch of sweet tobacco. Thick plum juice and tried dates.
Yes this may be oversherried but it is not often that one finds such a lovely sherry matured whisky.

Thick sherry, woody, dark berries, sweet tobacco, prunes. In the end there is a little bit of bitterness. On the mid palate I get a light sauce.

Such a condense sherry note - i have never tasted paxerette but if i image what it would taste like this is it. A little bit dry in the end - nothing that bothers me.

Chocolate, grated lemon zest, fresh hints in the nose, some barbecue, touch of nuts, greasy, oily in the mouth, roasted aromas, whole milk chocolate, dark fruit, nuts, slightly herbaceous, back-cracked oak, dry, the whole mouth is covered

Jop here comes the oak, woody bitterness, herbaceous notes and behind that tobacco and espresso

Water makes the malt a little smoother and delays the bitter finish a little

Exciting, heavy sherry malt, the finish is a bit too bitter for me personally

Very special and complex, but also unique. Definitely worth an experience. Even without water (drinkable). You notice the 55% zero.

Gew├╝rztraminer, lovage and herbs a la Underberg. Then it opens up and goes more towards dark berries, mahogany wood, piano lacquer, leather and some tobacco.

Sweet and sweet again. I would not have thought that. The impression from the nose becomes rounder. Lemon is added. And glucose. But tobacco, dark wood, dark forest honey, furniture polish still dominate. And it gets a little dry. Pickled dried fruits stay in your memory.

And suddenly the whisky is booming with a medium-length finish. Also goes in the direction of walnut. Unfortunately for me it is too dry in the end.
