    An incredibly complex, beautiful nose paired with a powerful mouthfeel and all of this is carried by the pleasantly interwoven aromas. Despite its force, it is not intrusive, but clearly shows what it can do.
    • Nose
      First, the scent of a cigar box, heather and clover mix with raisins, figs, dark grapes and currants. Sweet vanilla, mead and beeswax follow. Gradually, slightly sour and earthy notes become more present. In the background there is always a very light alcohol note that does not have a disturbing effect.
    • Taste
      It starts surprisingly smoothly before it hits really hard. The alcohol pushes the aromas so hard that they are difficult to grasp at the first sip. With the second sip, cherries, raisins, oranges ... a basket full of dark dried fruits paired with oak spice appear. Cloves, nutmeg, pepper mix with white coffee and roasted aromas. The heather returns accompanied by forest honey.
    • Finish
      Getting drier and long. Oranges. Latte macchiato, sandalwood and still peppery, spicy. Slightly salty notes and limes waft in the background

    A powerful, massive highland park; Diluted to drinking strength (approx. 46%) it shows an unbelievable variety of flavors and looks significantly older! A top malt!
    [Color] copper;
    • Nose
      Sweetness, raisins, sherry flavors, herbs, leather, oak;
    • Taste
      with water: powerful, creamy, oily sherry-fruity approach, lots of wood, heather, sweet honey, chocolate, ginger, pepper;
    • Finish
      long, warming, sweet, chocolate, oak and pepper in the finish;

    Blind tasting:
    Nose: I'm in heaven. Raisins in custard. Christmas bread with fruits. Slowly also prune, darker fruits. The color would not have guessed, but that's one of the best noses I've EVER had! At least about 500 tasted whiskys. With a little more time it gets milder, some floral notes appear, lavender, then a hint of sulfur. After a long time cowshed.
    Aroma: It really strikes, at first gentle and great sherry notes, blackberry, barely bitterness, but then suddenly pepper that lasts and burns for a long time.
    Finish: Long, the pepper holds, then a touch of oak, nice and long.

    Wow, that varies really well. But the contrast between nose, aroma and then pepper bomb is great. I'm just typing blindly on an 18-year-old jumper. Where the pepper comes from, no idea.

    - a very special but also very good HP
    - here, however, the oak cabinet wall greets
    - only for professionals! (Definitely not for beginners => die
    otherwise get an alcohol / oak shock
    - incredibly strong and massive, then needs a lot of water
    it will be really tasty!
    • Nose
      strong, intense, very powerful first impression, a lot of sherry and a lot of oak, fruity, grapes, red fruits, clear spice, with water: the HP heather smell comes out (definitely needs water!)
    • Taste
      brutal and powerful approach, lots of power, the 65% blow you away, here water is definitely cockpit !!!, lots of oak and spice, with water the fruit aromas really come out, powerful dry sherry
    • Finish
      long warm strong finish;
      long spicy dry aftertaste

    Frankly, this one is one of the greatest whisky that I have ever tasted. The age makes it even greater.
    In my humble opinion, it was a lucky cask....reminds me very much to the old (48,1%) 25 year old, but even more heavy, and of course slightly less complex.
    • Nose
      96 96
      Amazingly sherried maltiness. Just great
    • Taste

      Surprisingly approachable even neat, but of course, it hase to be diluted, but not too much.

    Worcestershire Sauce

    Highland Park releases single casks with frightening regularity for an airport, city, club or even private person. Today I will try a refill butt from 2004, bottled for the famous Vinothek Massen from Luxembourg. The ABV is out of this world. And the color is pretty nice as well.

    The nose starts a bit dirty, to be honest. An old carpet on which a bottle of Worcestershire sauce was spilled. Then some Maggimix chicken broth with lots of celery salt, walnuts and went earth. Quite umami. It took me quite a bit of effort to discover any sweetness in there, but with some patience I do get some hazelnuts, praline and honey. Adding water makes it a bit darker. But also gives it a touch of rubber. Wellington boots after a walk in the forest. Oh well.

    OMG, This is a kick to the teeth! Very alcoholic and piquant on cloves, chicken broth and walnuts. The sweetness transpires a bit faster in the guise of candied raspberries and roasted nuts. Chili peppers make it a bit too hot, so I am adding a bit of water. Diluted it becomes creamy, more accessible and more sweet. I also get some soot and hessian sack, but I do like it more than without water. Chocolate kicks in after a few moments.

    The finish is long, dark and sweet at the start, but soon the umami and even a herbal note kicks in. Green garden herbs and a bitterness at the death. But with water the finish is even longer, piquant and a warming, but also sweeter which I think is an advantage.

    What a beast! But adding water is really necessary to be able to enjoy this. At what ABV did this little animal go into the cask, I wonder?
