Old Perth 14 blended malt (Macallan/highland park) 43.7%
N: It reminds me of an old cognac right off the bat. It’s grapey...also some earth, pipe tobacco, new leather, coffee, vanilla, and dark chocolate.
P: Somehow sweet and dry at the same time. Dark chocolate with its bitterness, vanilla, chimney smokein the distance. Thin mouthfeel. A little prune, but no berries here. It’s all about dry roasted flavours.
F: Feels a bit thin, with cigar spice, tannin, wisp of smoke. Leaves your mouth bone dry.
Thoughts: Very tasty and easy drinking dram. It’s a bit thin but nice flavours all around!
What an interesting whisky. I find it completely absent of the berry type flavours sherry is known for and full of dry, roasted coffee, tobacco, cocoa, leather...very interesting and the bottle is disappearing fast...
In comparison to other old blends I would put it slightly below all the other xos (whisky fässle, whisky agency, Tokyo rivers, eiling lim) but above the infamous 22 year.
Edit: Having spent more time with this I would knock a few points off. It is pretty flat after getting a little air.
