    Middle of the Road
Suntory had only just released its blend ‘Toki’ when Nikka launched this ‘Days’ as successor to the very popular (and much better!) Nikka All Malt. The big difference is of course that Days is not only malt, but a blend that contains mildly peated malt and grain whisky.
The nose is very light. Like a feather! Uncomplicated on citrus. Breakfast cereals and some vanilla. If some peated malt went in the mix, I’m sure it was very little. Does not speak at all.
Light, but pleasant body. Softly creamy on vanilla, lemon and some almonds and just the tiniest of prickles reminding you that you are in fact drinking whisky. Plays nice.
The finish is short and honeysweet.
Docile, light, playful and summer. Very middle of the road. Around 40 EUR which makes it almost as expensive as the Nikka from the Barrel. That latter is the better choice. This is for cocktails only, in my opinion.

Sweet, flat, Toffeeblavanilleblagetreidebla ... does not bother, uninteresting.

a blend to chase a much better old !?
    • Nose
malty sweetness and a little grain rigor
the blend is sweet, we do not smell alcohol
      a little cereal, with flowers
    • Taste
      floral, fruity on undifferentiated fruits
      slightly artificial scent of candy
      vanilla, nuts
    • Finish
quite simple, maybe too much, the starter or cocktail blend, or ... for every day!

Interesting fruit nose, but then a lot of grain ...

No flaw but no interest to be found either : no real risk, no real pay-off.
Obvious youth and lack of aromatic presence on the palate are automatic score-stoppers but I can't find any real flaw either so, there, 80.

Certainly not bad but obviously very young, mostly on green apples, bananas and pears. A slight maltiness mingle with (thankfully) moderate grainy notes of varnish, but they're not invasive in any way. I can't say it's unpleasant, certainly can't.
    • Taste
      78 78
It has a certain boldness in texture and it might actually feel a bit more cohesive and present than other 40% blends, but other than that, we're not far from base distillate alcohol flavour wise. Like a good slightly aged vodka with discrete hints of bananas, apples and cereals (maybe). Tottaly generic and uninteresting but not flawed either.
    • Finish
      78 78
Same vein with something suprsingly dry and malty (flour, salty biscuits) and still that feeling of "a good standard alcohol but not really whisky".

Too diluted. Would have deserved to be a little more punchy and have a real personality. Will not clearly replace the Nikka from the barrel for me for cocktails.
    • Nose
      Cereals, grain, wood, white chocolate.
    • Taste
On the palate it is light, on the grain, cereals, a little leather and wood. Slight minty freshness.
    • Finish
Short final on sugar and wood.

Lemon nose, grain and cereals, all is well balanced obviously, but very light too. On the palate and in the finish it's very nice, vanilla, lemon, almond, it just feels like drinking alcohol.
