Whisky Reviews for Abhainn Dearg 2008

A little youth flashes through here and there, but overall he doesn't do a bad job. At best, one could accuse him of being a little too pleasant. But what is not, can still become. At least not a bad whisky from this still very young distillery. Comes too bad here in the base in my opinion.
    • Nose
      80 80
Very light and airy nose, really difficult to separate individual aromas here. You can make out a little lemon, a hint of fresh laundry. Then green branches, white chocolate, honey.
    • Taste
      81 81
Soft and creamy start. On the tongue it shows itself a little wider in its variety of flavors, offers toffee, caramel, honey, creme brulee. Malt. Everything was served very pleasantly and unobtrusively. Slightly woody note, with time spice of freshly ground pepper and grated ginger. Almond butter.
    • Finish
      80 80
Medium-long and fruity-spicy finish. Fresh wood, less green than on the nose. Chocolate shavings, coffee powder, marjoram, pepper.

    Good Red River Luck !!!

  3. ffmdino did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

I would say solidly made even if I'm not a friend of this malt
it has that typical cardboard-leather note; you love them or hate them
I had three Abhainn Dearg in the glass and this is fighting for first place
you should give the malt time, then that typical note evaporates somewhat
    • Nose
Pear, light leather, light this funny but typical note for Abhainn Dearg so cabbage / cabbage, light honey, pear comes horny, vanilla comes
Time brings a lot to the nose, because the strange note evaporates
    • Taste
light and soft on the palate
Pear, minimal smoke, cardboard (slightly damp), leather (note of the bad kind), light oak, vanilla comes
    • Finish
      medium long
hmm, what is there, light oak, sweetness comes, but in general the finish is not simple and simple

  4. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 75 points Connoisseur

it's a style, almost a little Lowland, but still quite immature for 10 years, if not as "nervous" as the 3 year olds. A solid, citrus-heavy malt that can be held good that no attempt is made to hide the spirit under tons of barrels. Still more experience than real enjoyment.
    • Nose
still youthful, pear, cereals, citrus, wet cardboard, lemonade
    • Taste
oily and slightly tart, citrus zest, pleasant bitterness
    • Finish
      tart, citrusy, slightly astringent.

    • Nose
Light. Daisies, dandelions, some hay and chamomile. Grain. Light wheat beer. Clay soil.
    • Taste
Malt beer. Lemon juice, some effervescent powder. White gummy bears. Woodruff. Thyme.

Exotic in a weird way. Nice to try it, but I don't recommend buying a full bottle.

Not really bad, but there are dozens of other single malts in the same age range, which are cheaper and more interesting. Or they simply taste better.
