Whisky Reviews for Bruichladdich 2006
6 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 89.42 points
- Typical, strong ex-red wine Laddie. Fortunately, no notes of sulfur. Despite the high alcohol strength, pretty drinkable. Not too complex.
- The 3 Laddie Crew Bottlings of 2018 left me a bit lost.
The Vosne Romanee is in line of quite a few red wine bottlings that offer just more of the same relatively bland raspberry cream pie notes at high voltage. Interchangeable, sadly.
The oloroso bottling has an interesting edge as this seems to be from a rather old cask which renders dry and earthy notes eventhough I'd be looking for sweetness. This seems more like an old Amontillado. Also here the high voltage robs the whisky of depth. Same goes for the V.O. bottling. The most interesting nose of them all, but what I like on the nose, I have some however interesting "problems" with on the palate. Actually, despite or even because f them, I find the V.O. the most interesting and it gets extra points for that.
Vosne Romanee cask 501: score 88-86-85
Oloroso cask 3112: score: 88-86-86
Virgin Oak cask 3657: score 89-88-87
Generally water helps, but does not create the depth would the new make have been filled in the cask at 63,5% and left for 10 to 12 years and not filled in the cask at 67 or 68%. So you rather get the a Schwarzenegger type muscle man instead of an eloquent scottish gentleman.
