As you can read on Wikipedia, Vosne-Romanée is a community about 18 km south of Dijon with 339 inhabitants - if that's not real Micro Provenance. The wine barrel from there harmonises perfectly with the clear laddie style and provides extremely tasty berry and chocolate notes.
    • Nose
      90 90
Intense and haunting nose that immediately delivers red currants, strawberries and ripe red cherries. Very fruity, very fresh - but at the same time underground with earthy and loamy notes. Allspice, chervil and tarragon deliver a spiciness that is precisely matched to the berries. Dark chocolate, warm cocoa, caramel, toffee.
    • Taste
      89 89
It is unbelievable how comparatively soft it sits on the tongue when it is undiluted. Very creamy and viscous, liquid salted caramel that amalgamates with blackberry jelly and cherry jam. Although it shows its power at the tip, it generally only provides a pleasantly warm feeling on the tongue. A brownie with a just (viscous) liquid core, raw cane sugar.

Medium length and dry with oak chips. Here again earthy and loamy, the berry aromas faded, but don't forget grapes, cherries, cellar mustiness.

  2. MrDvorak scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

The aroma is dominated by pitted cherries, milk chocolate, fatty raisins and dates. In an oily, velvety taste, red berries are mixed with chocolate chips and spices. The finish is long, burning, chocolate-berry, woody.

A very velvety and balanced Brookladdy, the Pinot Noir barrel gives a soft cherry pew undertones, a perfectly tailored and tasty whisky.

    RATING: 90pts - | 90 - 92 (A-) → Excellent | - Here the golden pantheon begins.

Once again I am convinced how different Bruichladdich can be! This particular release has a fresh berry and fruit profile that makes you, at least, be surprised that the product is made on the island. Isla. Well, the whisky itself turned out to be as expected, powerful and tasty!
    • Nose
Fresh, fruity with moderate sweetness. Derivatives - raspberry jam, pineapple, vanilla, raw boards.
    • Taste
Soft yet powerful. Oak, fresh berries, pepper.
    • Finish
Peppery, with hints of berries, raisins and chocolate.

The somewhat gentler Islay style complemented with Pinot Noir? In any case, this works out well, especially if, as in this case, the two had 12 years to integrate. Click here for a detailed review: https://keinehalbendrinks.de/2021/06/30/aus-den-weinbergen-islays/

A very exciting bottling of the Micro-Provenance series with bombastic aroma. One should slowly approach the high alcohol content.
    • Nose
      89 89
Strong wine notes, strong and spicy on the nose, dry, vanilla. A nice sweetness emerges from the initially powerful start. Dried fruits, raisins, cranberries, freeze-dried strawberries. Frosting, cereals, raspberry tarts, ice cream with red fruits.
    • Taste
      88 88
Caramel, great red fruits, vanilla, strong oak wood, strawberries, strong start, roasted wood, barley sugar, malty
    • Finish
      86 86
dry, very spicy, light wood, strong, slightly tart, earthy, minimal dark chocolate, dust-dry wooden boards from the hardware store

Typical, strong ex-red wine Laddie. Fortunately, no notes of sulfur. Despite the high alcohol strength, pretty drinkable. Not too complex.

The 3 Laddie Crew Bottlings of 2018 left me a bit lost.
The Vosne Romanee is in line of quite a few red wine bottlings that offer just more of the same relatively bland raspberry cream pie notes at high voltage. Interchangeable, sadly.
The oloroso bottling has an interesting edge as this seems to be from a rather old cask which renders dry and earthy notes eventhough I'd be looking for sweetness. This seems more like an old Amontillado. Also here the high voltage robs the whisky of depth. Same goes for the V.O. bottling. The most interesting nose of them all, but what I like on the nose, I have some however interesting "problems" with on the palate. Actually, despite or even because f them, I find the V.O. the most interesting and it gets extra points for that.
Vosne Romanee cask 501: score 88-86-85
    Oloroso cask 3112: score: 88-86-86
Virgin Oak cask 3657: score 89-88-87
Generally water helps, but does not create the depth would the new make have been filled in the cask at 63,5% and left for 10 to 12 years and not filled in the cask at 67 or 68%. So you rather get the a Schwarzenegger type muscle man instead of an eloquent scottish gentleman.
