    Kaboom!
The boys and girls of The Nectar, Belgian bottler, knocked on many distilleries’ doors for a special cask for their tenth anniversary last year. Many of those can be found on my blog, but this one was sold out before I was able to get my hands on it. Luckily I found a bottle via social media recently and am very happy that I was able to buy it, as it is a belter of a Kavalan. On virgin oak, no less. That’s a first for me. What a colour!
The nose is rife with dark and red fruit, with clear notes of raisins, raspberries, red berries, plums and pomegranate. It even has a note of furniture polish or even hair spray, but it does not disturb. Somehow it even stimulates. Whodathunk? Some roast beef and chewing tobacco. Feisty, by the way, but that does not come as a surprise. This is virgin oak, after all, which usually offers up a whole range of spices. Beguiling nose!
Kaboom! Boy, if this is not a kick to the teeth, then I do not know what is! Again bursting with red fruit, but the spice and the high ABV make me gasp for breath. Leave it to rest for a few seconds in the pit of your tongue and you’ll get all sorts of dark and sweet notes and spices such as curry, cloves, nutmeg and a pinch of cinnamon. This is not for the faint hearted, nor the wet blankets. A powerhouse!
And then there is the finish. Let’s call it what it is: a Grand Finale. Dark and sweet, warm and spicy and from here to eternity.
An absolute divine monster! If you see it somewhere: do not hesitate!

Like some Jamaican runs, the nose is almost off putting with its strength. Perhaps the long maturation isn’t best suited for these climates. I have had much more enjoyable Kavalans half of this age. Simply put, it’s a bit offensive with its assertion, too much bitterness and oak, and that nose is

    Glencairn glass.
Crass, dark color, black cola is already close. Probably the best Kavalan and also one of the best whiskys I've had so far.

Boah, such a strong intensity of sweet, dark wood, cherries, chocolate and a lot of Pattex glue and glue. A little cherry cola and some mint is also there.
Completely, completely round and harmonious, the alcohol is only very subtle and not perceptible at all.

After 30 minutes and a few drops of water still slightly sweet Pattex glue dominates, but also more red fruits, liquorice, juicy wood, sultanas and also associations of lush and good rum.
      Insane nosing.

Wow, the alcohol presses enormously here, very different from the nose, but balanced and also warm.
Water is good for him here, there is bitter wood, minimal spice and otherwise follows the nose, i.e. red fruits and a nice sweetness, but not quite as intense, but a little thinner than the nose.
But very, very nice, tasty and good.

Stays really long on the palate, so even after minutes you still have the taste in your mouth.

Wtf, what kind of a malt is that !?
No comparison works here, no matter which barrel category or cuvée you already had.
THE part is something new, at least for me.
    • Nose
      94 94
The nose is completely overloaded with aromas, totally deep and multi-layered, very difficult to deal with.
Over time, it calms down and an interplay of different flavors arises ... there is a grill with various roasted flavors, raisins, wood glue, dark chocolate, currants & elderberries, freshly broken branches, orange zest, cinnamon, nutmeg, eucalyptus, cola shower, later one clear forest honey note.
The wood glue note disappears clearly after approx. 15 minutes and the fruits move more into the foreground, chilli is now added, the forest honey remains.
    • Taste
      90 90
First the surprise, because it is not even as woody as expected (no, not a disappointment, rather astonishment & relief alike).
Again, a lot of dark fruits (cherries, blackberries, plums), plus something slightly minty.
In addition, there are also fresh tobacco leaves, peppers, earthy notes and many spices.
But the craziest, I have associations with Red Bull Cola, which are made with a mix of different plant extracts ....!
    • Finish
      91 91
Then suddenly out of the back again a good batch of spices, dry oak and an acid that makes you smack.
      Very great & long finish.

Smell Nose: Black Forest cake decorated with shredded figs, vanilla and cherry, high lego, coffee powder, significant wine power, the power of bottle wake up is reflected in the deep excavation of flavor, some darker and heavy such as burnt plastic and baking barrel The taste is released.

Taste Palate: deep dark chocolate instant coffee powder, vanilla figs, diluted soy sauce, chewed nearly tasteless mint gum, tobacco.

After rhyme Finish: medium length, vanilla Oreo, tobacco, xylitol, coffee powder, caramel, orange blossom water.

Body: Heavy body, kavalan's top depth, rich and balanced oil, slightly powdery, and a lot of fun to drink on every gradient.

Perfect whisky. Super full body. Vanilla, spicy oak, coconut and mango. Its a bomb of taste. Almost overpowering, but a little time in the glass and a few drops of water and you are in heaven.
