A substantially, sherried whisky, that nontheless allows room for the destillate to show up. I think the point for botteling was chosen quite well. To me a good one for a fireside, a winged chair and a weighty tome.

Immediately sherry. More on the nutty side. Salty caramel, a bit chocolate. Behind that some malty and birch-like herbal notes. Thyme. Some shy fruity tones appear, getting more prominent with time. Clearly dried apricots to me, with a little touch of candied lemon peel. An idea of rain falling on hot stone (ozone?). All in all quite appealing. Medium intense, not so much "in your face" but more gentle and elegant.
With water the herbal notes get dominant.

Oh, there is the oak and the 22 years! Strong liquorice. Leather, tannins, vanilla, hazelnut. Nutty sherry, chocolate and caramel again with some spicy notes (cumin, nutmeg). Contained sweetness balanced by woody dry notes. Easily drinkable without water. So easy, that I have to go for a refill to complete my tasting-notes :-)

Liquorice, oak and chocolate. Some herbal notes shine trough. Well balanced between sweet and dry, like a good truffle-praline.

A nice Refill affair, the age is quite charming.
Less fruit, but interesting spices and wood flavors.
    • Nose
      86 86
First, a little closed and tart, but with time and 1-2 drops of water, it opens up nicely and reveals an intense spicy refill nose.
    • Taste
      87 87
After a while, and chewing, the background is very appealing, because smooth-fruity notes, light touch of loam & liqueur, wood & cough syrup, pear & Ben Nevis (a touch).
    • Finish
      85 85
Dry and with some spices in the luggage such as allspice, cinnamon and cardamom, gently but consistently fading away, remains of grape fruit, or rather thick raisins.

Very addictive, intriguing whisky. It is not outstanding, but really decent. I sat down quietly with the intention of thorough analysis. I took a sip and immediately another, another and one more, forgetting about the analytical approach. Drinks easily and pleasantly. Good daily dram.

gingerbread, tropical fruit, yeast bun, butter popcorn, dry sherry
    • Taste
      87 87
sweet, grapes, vanilla, chocolate, roots, chamomile
    • Finish
      87 87
medium, a bit bitter but in pleasant way, skin, chocolates

Abv. 53.1%, 22 years, Sherry Butt
Nose: Cocoa, cocktail cherries, green freshly broken branches, red jelly, red wine cream, a little butterscotch, a very funky association of sourdough, with water even ripe apples
Taste: more pickled cherries, bark, brown sugar, with a longer time on the palate develops an unpleasant bitterness, with water the palate drops off significantly
Finish: short and with a lot of bitterness
Conclusion: The nose is OK after the bottle has breathed for some time, but the rest unfortunately falls off. Okay for the issue price, but a sample would have been enough.

    • Taste

Somehow I do not get along with that. He has many nuts and bread notes. I think that's not bad. But I do not really like that.

Color: medium dark to lighter amber.
    • Nose
      90 90
Rotten green walnut (very interesting!), Petrichor, foliage
    • Taste
      89 89
Slightly rotted nuts, relatively little wood, dark strong beer, indefinable spices. A little too alcoholic.
    • Finish
      89 89
Medium long, medium dry to dry, spicy, slightly alcoholic, dark strong beer, slightly rotted nuts. Relatively little wood.

Conclusion: Good. And something unusual, hence the higher rating.
