warm and aromatic with notes of wood, some sherry, light fruit and sweetness. Maybe also a hint of vanilla and orange.
With a few drops of water and a while later: aromatic and open, very appealing.

with a light start, aromatic with warm wood notes, slightly spicy and tart, a hint of coffee, now again sweetish and a hint of spiciness.

sweetish-tart with notes of wood, slightly fruity with sherry and slightly malty. Medium to long.

I like Glen Grant very much and this one is always lively and pleasant with beautiful and fresh spice and herbal notes. The finish is relatively long but overwhelmed a bit. The barrels used do not harmonize in fact. A big bottle would ultimately be too stressful for me - 13.07.2019
    • Nose
Cherry, but the alcoholic chocolate-covered, leathery, greasy sweetness, honey, herbs, waxy, ethereal, dried oak, wood glue
    • Taste
Very sweet, slightly spicy, watery texture, cane sugar, dried herbs, light dryness, mint, little bitterness

Looks great on paper, especially as far as the age/price ratio is concerned, but the actual experience leaves something to be desired. You have to pretty much tease out the flavors, and there's more heat than I appreciate from a malt of this age and cask type. There's some old malt in there, and yes: a sherry cask as well, but the two never really harmonize. Close but no cigar; I'll pass on this one.
    • Nose
Curiously closed, even after upwards of 30 minutes in the glass. The sherry and the age are both palpable, but initially, there's little else. After a while, a sweet-and-savory aspect emerges: honey and herbs. Finally, some children's wax markers and a touch of rubber. It's nice, but still very reserved, and even if the strength doesn't feel too much, there's a sense of indistinct prickly and/or tannic heat. Consider me skeptical.
    • Taste
Warming and sweet right off the bat, with a herbal backbone. Dark honey: yes. Freshly plucked spices (thyme, rosemary): check. But somehow, it lacks substantial development. The flavors rise up and are gone just as swiftly. There's some heat on the palate as well, but I can't quite decide whether it's alcoholic zing, prickly oak, or both. Seems like it's both. Not a lot of body and a less-than-rich mouthfeel. It all adds up to a feeling of incomplete integration, as if the cask and the spirit hadn't really meshed, which, given the age, is curious.
    • Finish
Some liquorice, fennel, and honey. Residual sweetness sticks to the gums and the inside of the cheeks (this is more clingy than the initial mouthfeel would have you expect). Nice aftertaste, all on honey and herbs, but I'm missing a positive cask contribution here.

I find it exciting, it is a very clear modern Grant - tastes like the old 16yo with more steam and a short finish in a good refill keg. This is interesting, but certainly not what most expected and nothing where I would necessarily need a large bottle.

For me, the sensory is a Bourbonfassreifung in a spicy Ex Bourbonfas with many greenwood, herbal and vegetable flavors with a spoonful of sherry.
    • Nose
      88 88
Cherry and strawberry jam, lots of ginger, some menthol, leather and tobacco, fresh peeled branches, green wood juices, later blueberries, cinnamon
    • Taste
      87 87
crunchy leather, freshly sawn leaves, warm, ginger, tree sap, slightly dry, markedly astringent, dancing tannins,
    • Finish
      87 87
dry, waxy, green wood, cultivated and in the middle with fine red sherry influences until the end
