  1. Achany scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

sweet honey peat, some dried yellow fruits, dried apples, leathery, full bodied, quite a lot of peat for this age, cold ashes, very very gentle wet and moldy hay. Oaky and spicy as well but not in the spotlight. the finish is long, starts rather sweet and gets smokier and peatier the longer it lasts.
Compared to the 20yo this has more complexity and is more like an old and dignified Islay. What a fine dram this on is!

A gentleman. Very set, slightly spicy, slightly smoky, slightly sweet. A little bit of everything, too much of nothing. There are juicy apple flavors, but this whisky still looks pleasantly old and ripe. Ardmore 1996 (20yo OA, WID: 102030), for example, looks fresh compared to a 12-year-old. Due to the "glowing" character I feel distant from my favorite standard that Talisker 18 reminds me of. Great whisky, but the current issue price (around € 250 at the end of May 2020) is beyond my pain threshold. It is not particularly good for the money.

Thick, creamy vanilla, with solid oak, some nutmeg. Light smoke. Later, homemade, freshly grated apple sauce is added, which alternates with spicy aromas from the old oak.
    • Taste
      88 88
Very set, creamy vanilla here too. "Smoldering" is quite good here: delicate smoke in a harmonious interplay with set, pleasantly spicy, slightly peppery oak aromas. A little saw shavings.

      87 87
In the finish it subsides a little. The same aromas as in the nose and mouth, but significantly weaker: creamy vanilla, spicy oak, slightly sweet, slightly smoky. Here the oak shows a little bitterness. Quite quickly gone.

Mild and yet so intense and full of character. This Ardmore impresses with its mature age and the wonderfully coordinated aromas. Old, solid and tasty!

    • Nose
Intense toffee shines in the Premium Snifter, light earthy smoke blows from a distance, sugar beets and fried bacon exude their delicious, but also peculiar aroma with yellow fruits and honey. Raisins, slightly fermented yellow fruits, hints of leather and trophic fruits paired with neat peat and ashy smoke. The bacon left out in butter comes into its own in a creamy way, a hint of caramel and milk chocolate, the earthy notes gradually fade away and sweet fruit remains.
    • Taste
Mild and spicy. The first impression is wonderfully round and creamy, apricots and raisins play with each other before cold smoke is powerfully distributed with earthy peat and pleasant sharpness. A pinch of black pepper sticks between the lips with spicy wood tones, subtle mineral smoke and earth tones permeate the palate with cozy warmth, leather is minimal. Menthol and chili dissolve from fly ash and charred pieces of wood, subtle sharpness warms the entire mouth area and massively stimulates saliva at the moment.
    • Finish
Hazelnuts and smoked oak rest on the palate, sweetness plays dark fruit, creamy wood blends with subtle spiciness, a pinch of salt and menthol freshness. Slightly smoky notes stick between tongue and palate, peaty announces the end of the aftertaste. Shortly thereafter, the aftertaste gains volume again, a hint of menthol blends with creamy caramel and earth tones.

Really good malt. I like it. This is set again compared to the 20yo (WID: 102030). But has a lot of punch, especially in the mouth, which is not unpleasant. The smoke is expected to be more restrained than the 20yo.
I like the 20s very much and he is also PLV-moderately recommended. The 30s lays it still a shovel on it. But that also has to be paid well.
    • Nose
Nice, comparatively fine nose. Sugar beets. Herbal honey. Rather yellow fruits. Cloudberry jam. Apricots. From time to time also a penchant for the exotic. Maybe something like dragon fruit. Slightly smoked meat. Campfire. After a while, spices like nutmeg come. And generally oak. The longer and more often you smell, the less the fruits become. But it is spicier, oakier and also a certain freshness comes through.
    • Taste
A mixture of beautiful, creamy sweetness and spice. Honey again. Toffee. Marzipan. In addition ginger candy. Chilli oil. Then comes the oak. The sweetness subsides and the sharpness combines with the spice of the oak. It is getting drier.
The smoke is very discreet here.
    • Finish
Nuts. Some herbs. Still a little prickle. Now the smoke is stronger again but still rather restrained. Tree bark.
