Compaired to the 10YO Viking Scars or 12YO Viking Honour this is a few bob more. But for that money (disregard the +€100 shoplinks, this is available at £30) you get 6% extra which really make a difference.
That extra punch makes it a lot bolder and lifts it considerably.
    • Nose
      85 85
      Sweet, zesty, lemon.
Not much peat, but there's sherry.
Not refined, sherry notes are actually a little "rough",
      musky, stale dry raisins.
Leather and tobacco mixed with damp wood.
    • Taste
      86 86
      Good texture, almost oily.
      Arrives sweet, then citric.
First sip feels a bit thin, but at 46% it recovers nicely.
Yellow fruits giving way to growing pepper and chocolate bisquits.
    • Finish
      83 83
Taste fades a bit too quick, a little drying wood.
Peppery warmth is very long though.

    • Nose
Honey, wet wood, grasses, mint, herb candy, gooseberries, apricots, peaches from the can

And here too there is minimal smoke as soon as you have it in your mouth
    • Taste
Honey, apple, apricot, gooseberry, lemon, nuts, some wood, minimal smoke in the finish

easy drinking malt. The nose and finish are very appealing. On the palate, however, it shows rather different aromas.
    • Nose
Smoky, quite peaty, subtly sweet, light caramel, sherry aromas, leather, slightly bitter, maritime salty notes, later the peaty disappears and becomes very soft
    • Taste
sweet fruity start accompanied by light smoke, citrus fruits, light sherry notes, a bit bitter, leather, nutty towards the end
    • Finish
sweet with a light maritime smoke, sherry aromas now clearer again, the bitter leather aromas are also present here.

    Colour: amber
Okay but I definitely wouldn't buy a bottle. The nose is disappointing but the palate is okay.
    • Nose
      72 72
Peat, maritime notes, slight citrus, fresh paint, seaweed and shellfish. Smells young.
    • Taste
      78 78
Sweet thin arrival, then fizzy: pepper, orange, feels like a fanta. Feint peat notes on the backpalate. Icing sugar, ginger, coffee.
    • Finish
      72 72
Slightly drying, orange, warmth on the throat. Peppery. Medium length.

Another nice solid HP. At the right price I would buy one. This was a sample courtesy of peatbogger.
    • Nose
      84 84
Coffee and tobacco, dry raisins and some sort of cake with chocolate but not too much. Figs, dates and brown boot polish.
There is normally a hint of smoke on a HP but not on this one.
I also get that felt tip pen smell which I quite like, even just a little in a sherry whisky.
    • Taste
      85 85
A lot of those dried fruits just fizzle on the tongue. It is also quite spicy and a bit feisty.
More of those coffee notes and dry roasted peanuts thrown into a bag of beefy crisps, mashed together and shaken.
That was a favourite concoction of mine when I was drunk back in the day. In fact this dram would go very well with it.
    • Finish
      80 80
The finish is it's weaknesses, it almost gets cut off but there are no bad notes that get dragged along. Basically short and sweet.

  7. Arquebus scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

Nose touch of HP Peat & damp wood dominates, some sweeter over ripe fruit notes, occasional whiffs of sherry, but you have to work to find them. Opens up with hints of lemon zest/ eau de cologne.
    Suffering from chill-filtration?
Taste: balanced sweet, dry pleasing bitterness in the finish.
Thin in body/ short on finish. Underwhelming!
