    First impression: WOW

    Color: medium dark amber
    • Nose
      87 87
Torfing (without end), but not intrusive, reminiscent of peat fire ..... in old cottages
    • Taste
      88 88
Peat smoke slightly sweet, parts of dried fruits, caramel and vanilla, not too intrusive, coffee notes and slightly cinnamon notes, also here you can see the oak barrels, a total of a very round composition .......
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium to long, spicy, sweet with cinnamon spices and a fantastic persistent smoke trail.

  2. Schnappsdrossel scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

    Color: Deep Copper

Meets my expectation. Tasty whisky at an acceptable price, for the small batches you have probably picked the better sherry casks.
    • Nose
First fruity sherry notes, then resinous, earthy, old leather, late smoke, between smoking campfire on which someone has just thrown earth, and fumes. With water: resinous, less fruits. Hazelnuts.
    • Taste
Voluminous and racy for 48%. Earthy, dirty, smoky smoke, ripe oranges, bitter walnuts. Water takes the whisky sharpness and volume.
    • Finish
Medium. Resinous, wet ash. Paint, tree sap, rotting wood.

  3. dRambo scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

has convinced me in direct comparison more than a Lagavulin DE 18yo

I found it very delicious - even if this direct style is not my prey scheme.

Quite enjoyable! Lacks the oompf of a Springbank10, but this Ballechin counters by offering lots of sweetness and brightly fruity undertones on the nose and palate. Very affordable too!
    • Nose
Mellow, subdued smoke and brightly fruity undertones of apricot, peach, and caramel.
    • Taste
The smoke arrives gradually. Aside from a more grounded, yes heartier smoke, it reminds me of Springbank 10. Its less fruity and more straightforward caramelized toffee-ish here though. Caramel, menthol, and milk coffee lead into the finish.
    • Finish
Medium. Toffied eucalyptus, icing sugar, and weak herbal tea.

  5. LeChiffre scored this whisky 78 points Expert Junior

Solid smoky, slightly sweet independent bottling. Not particularly salient, also with regard to the price.
    • Nose
      78 78
powerful, a lot of smoke (burnt wood), behind it discreet sweetness
    • Taste
      78 78
superficial peat smoke - behind it slight sweetness, earthy notes
    • Finish
      77 77
      smoky, spicy, oak, coffee notes
