- This bottle was sold 2000€ on The Whisky Auction Society (WAS) in March 2017.
- tasted it in 2009. Not quite my taste. Could buy it at 120 Euro a bottle.
- This Whisky was sold for 1.755 € at Whiskyauction in July 2015
- Complex animal from a lost distillery.
On the nose I get wonderful rum-raisins and milk
chocolate with liqueur. Prunes with candied sugar. Chestnuts! Something meaty,
too, that makes this very interesting.
It is full and creamy and fills the mouth completely
with a spicy whisky on cinnamon, cloves and liquorice. The sherry translates
into banana, dades and bitter oranges. Wonderful touch of smoke! The oak slowly
but surely becomes loud, but the whole is as balanced as a tightrope artist.
The long finish remains spicy and sweet.
The alcohol is controlled, no aggressiveness and the nose is balanced. Attack on sherry, spices, dates and dried fruits. Some vinous notes, old spirits like plum or cognac. On the 2nd nose chocolate appears as well as slight marine notes, on algae and iodine. Some touches of varnish but very discreet. A superb Japanese cask sherry nose, refined and complex; not without remind of good Karuizawa like the 1973. After adding water the nose evolves on caramel, figs and prune.
A beautiful sherry without astringency, on chocolate and spices. The texture is oily. The palate evolves on fruits, figs and dates in particular. The 53% do not feel and the addition of water brings him just a little astringency.
Long enough finish on sherry notes.
- Recommended high quality bottling from this sadly dismantled distillery. It demonstrates why Hanyu is one of my all time favorites.
Warming with the typical rum-raisin or plum-in-madeira chocolate aroma at first nosing that you can find in so many sherry wood matured whiskies. This one is perfectly balanced and oh so tasty. It is also sweet and aromatic with notes of chestnuts, marzipan and high quality oloroso sherry.
Rich and bold, completely dominated by sherry aromas, spices and old wood, which adds a slightly bitter component. Additional notes of nutmeg, liquorice, dates and prunes. A lovely full bodied taste.
Long with the sherry lingering on and on. Remains always pleasant.
