    So you fork out £2000 and expect an amazing Port Ellen? I think not, it's not great, rather overhyped because it's in the platinum range. The regular XOP range stands out further.
    • Nose
      91 91
      Treacle, chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon with light sherry. Wet ash and medium smokiness. Full of cherry and chocolate like a Black Forest cake.
    • Taste
      88 88
      Too much oak, sherry influence takes over completely.
    • Finish
      87 87
      Short to medium and flat. Very dry too.

    Very nice. The cask is relatively dominant, but I enjoyed it.

    Really fantastically balanced Ellen bottled at the right time, enough character of its own comes through, great notes of spices and tea, the way I love them, perfectly happy.
    • Nose
      Great dark chocolate notes with plum, cinnamon, fine leather, black cherry, chestnuts, marzipan, slightly sweet tobacco further back, saffron, black wine gums, dates, oriental tea notes further back
    • Taste
      Chestnuts, plums, dates, pomegranate, liquorice, mocha, cinnamon, saffron, camphor, fine dark chocolate, sweet tobacco, ever-oiled leather, black cherries, marzipan, Black Forest ham, tick nutmeg and pepper, Assam tea,
    • Finish
      Incense smoke, plum, pomegranate, some rose petals, ginger, cherries, leather, tobacco, Assam tea, long, nicely integrated oak, not too bitter, coffee

    A very appetizing color.
    Mahogany.

    It smells astonishingly strong of smoke, after 35 years.
    Not my first Port Ellen, but certainly the smokiest.
    There is also a note of glue coming up.
    I'll give him a little more time ...

    It is developing towards Lagavulin,
    but also has a sweet note.
    The smoke clears
    there are now tender, tart barrel notes.

    Very powerful start.
    It drives the juices into my mouth.
    Everything was washed around, creamy, spicy, with the old wood in the foreground.

    Yes, he has something
    but of course the price is beyond good and bad ...
