Well peaty, greedy a little sweet. Iodine. Very maritime. Fatty fish. Doesn't look his age.
    • Taste
      84 84
Younger palate. Remains iodine, oily, wax, medicinal plants. Drier and more vegetal finish.
    • Finish
      85 85
Lighter iodized peaty finish, a little ashy. A trace of dark chocolate.

A nice sweet and smoky Islay, bright and a bit brash, but great flavors and well done.

    Amazingly mature for 3 years.
    • Nose
fierce peat smoke, but very sweet, there is a certain vinous touch, a little cowshed
    • Taste
Self-willed, peat, anise, surprisingly bitter, cloves and some menthol. Amazing soft start.
    • Finish
Peat, still very dry, astringent, herbaceous somehow, more peat and a bit ashy.

    Colour: Gold.
Nose: Peaty, slightly maritime, farmy, on dry peat smoke,
rich in seaweeds, with some diesel oil and on wood ashes. Surprisingly mature in
    the nose.
Taste: Light, young, fresh, salty, smoky, slightly floral, on
diluted tar, oak and caramel. The finish is short to medium, oaky, on vanilla,
coconut, wood ashes and slightly maritime.
General Impression: A very nice nose suggesting more maturity
than 3 years. The "nose" has matured faster than the body, with the oaky
flavours more present than on the inaugural batch. This second official batch
was bottled durig the first days of December 2009 (i.e., Winter and not
    Autumn).

A nice surprise. probably the best kilchoman of the four seasons that I could taste.
    • Nose
Peat, lemon and a lot of oak.
    • Taste
Floral and peaty, a little oily, sweet, ash and cough syrup.
    • Finish
Always cough syrup (plants + sugar) and smoke.

  20. Malt Hans scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Smoky and spicy aroma, nutmeg, cinnamon,

prunes, fir branches and lemon zest. Vanilla sweet and smoky taste,

pepper, anise, vanilla, orange marmalade and malt. Long, smoky and malty

    end.

  21. Edwin de Lange scored this whisky 94 points Expert Senior

As expected of Kilchoman, this is a great dram, nice peaty, straightforward, clear and lots of taste. A real Islay style.

  22. I_SPEY scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

    Color: gold.
Nose: sweet peat, cloves and cream.
Taste: again this sweetyish peat, very light and spicy, slightly creamy and delicious bacon.
Finish: peat and peat and.....  - very long (and very tasty), with peppers and honey and wood. Comments: beautiful whisky with an adorable aroma!

  23. hsmithjr scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Yeah, this is going to make a brilliant 10 year.
    • Nose
Huge and peaty!  Bonfires and wet burnt wood. Fruity and herbal. Salted sardines.
    • Taste
Spicy and peaty, yet showing youth.  Musty citrus peels.  Sour apples, then struck matches.
    • Finish
Long, peaty, and.......floral?  Yes, floral. Faint, faint dry sherry.

  24. Willie JJ scored this whisky 81 points Expert Senior

Every time I try Kilchoman I enjoy it. Its still early days but I just
feel that its going to be a fantastic malt once it reaches a decent age,
say 8-10. It's really drinkable already.
    • Nose
Very nice. Some real complexity here and less of the signs of youth seen
in the inaugural release. Still clearly young, but real development of
iodine and sticking plasters with the backdrop of a peat fire.
    • Taste
The youth is more evident here. Still lots of smoke but there nice malty sweetness too.
    • Finish
Not a huge finish, but there's a lovely freshness that balances the heat and smoke.
