Delicious sherry malt. Not very intense, but nice and tasty. Needs time in the glass. Although the sherry flavors are not very intense, they cover the distiller's character too much.
    Hardly noticeable herbs and spices.
    Otherwise good schnapps.
    • Nose
      84 84
Pleasant start in the nose, but takes some time to develop, then slightly fruity after orange peel, red apples, plum must, but does not work as intensely as expected. In addition a light wood note, honey sweetness with a little caramel and marzipan. Herbs only get through very sparingly.
    • Taste
      84 84
Soft, fresh beginning, the fruits appear a bit ripe, fuller. But not really intense on the palate either. In addition, there is a nice round honey sweetness with a slightly sour touch of raspberries, currants, only subtly spicy,
    • Finish
      83 83
medium-long finish, rather fruity, sweet, slightly drier with a subtle nutty spice. Leaves a kind of mint-fresh mouthfeel.

Mistook it in a blind tasting for a Campbeltown release
    • Nose
Industrial, oily, Campbeltown funk, oranges, red berries, sweet marzipan
    • Taste
a bit dirty, rather watery, Wicks Blue, a slight acidic note, apricots, some grassiness, changes a lot, creamy, roasted hazelnut
    • Finish
Pleasantly dry, charming black tea with vanilla, manuka honey, a bit tarry, after a while more oranges come out

    Deep amber color. Pretty oily.
    • Nose
      87 87
Full, volatile, rich, intense. Lots of Sherry Oloroso. Red fruit. Dried fruits. Cake. A pinch of spices. Light herbalism in the background. Nutmeg. Caramel. Vanilla.
    • Taste
      88 88
Full, rich. Sherry Oloroso. Dried fruits. Red fruit. Dried, unsweet raisins. Spices. Cinnamon. Caramel. Vanilla. Pastry. Light bitterness of oak. Cocoa. Fresher fruits appear in the background. Yellow fruit. Peach. Maybe some tropical fruit.
    • Finish
      85 85
The bitterness of the oak. Dark chocolate. Spices. Cinnamon. Medium-long. The second time, more dried fruit.

An official, limited distillery release made from three single casks in the Exceptional Cask Series. The whisky matured in 1st and 2nd fill Oloroso casks, is not chill-filtered, not colored and is served at a drinking strength of 46% vol. bottled.

    • Nose
A mixture of fruit and marzipan on the nose, fruit cake with marzipan filling. A few notes of color dilution are noticeable at first, but quickly dissipate. Then the nutty-fruity component becomes clearer. But all this is not really dark or deeply fruity, it is fruit compote with apples, pears and a sour berry component, gooseberries and orange.
    • Taste
The sherry is clear, but it is a light, under-ripened sherry that lacks the deep, concentrated fruit aromas, but also lacks any pronounced nutty spiciness, tending more in the direction of cheap marzipan with a fruit filling. The alcohol is quite sharp in between and the whisky is dry in the mouth with grassy aspects.
    • Finish
The finish is not particularly lasting, the whisky ends with dryness. An alcoholic sharpness remains that cannot be explained by the alcohol strength. The nutty oloroso aromas are missing in the aftertaste, the sherry appears immature and bitter.

These weren't exceptional casks. With Oloroso Casks and 11 years of time you can get better results. The whisky is partly sharp and bitter, the alcohol is not well integrated and the sherry aromas are more reminiscent of an unripe, yeasty wine. The whisky doesn't convince me.

Fruity and spicy, very drinkable - very good!
    • Nose
      90 90
Hints of dried fruits, berries, tobacco, sherry wood, toffee, cooked fruits, cooked oranges, jam, little citrusy, hints of nuts, whiffs of vanilla - pretty good!
    • Taste
      91 91
Oily, creamy, little punchy, subtle sweetness, strawberry, vanilla, toffee, milk chocolate, blueberries, cooked oranges, jam, tobacco, sherry wood, honey, little spices - still good!
    • Finish
      90 90
Medium long, warm, fruity, spicy, zesty, dried fruits, herbs, vanilla, candy

Who am I to say this is not an exceptional cask (or casks, because this is clearly a vatting)?
    • Nose
Notes of aniseed, cherries and fermented grapes, as well as a slight metallic touch. Whiffs of marzipan and cotton candy, but also some grassiness accompanied by dried strawberries.
    • Taste
Sweet arrival but immediately quite wine-y, somewhat resinous and a touch dry. A hint of ginger, pepper and fermented red fruits, as well as some sandalwood.
    • Finish
Plenty of caramel and toffee. Medium in length.

on first tasting this is quite Woody which is really surprising for such a young whisky.
For me this promises a lot more than it delivers, this is far from exceptional but it is decent and certainly drinkable but worth no more than £40 in drinkers terms.

Very good value! Wonderful Sherry-taste. One of my best 11 years old whiskies.

Beautifully balanced Aultmore with notes of sherry that are reminiscent of much older whiskys.
    • Nose
      86 86
Typical sherry notes on the nose with cooked, slightly fermented fruits, lightly roasted almonds and cocoa.
    • Taste
      87 87
Very creamy and harmonious in the mouth. One likes to play with him and no sharpness disturbs it.
    • Finish
      85 85
A long finish that comes up very late with a little liquorice, which for me personally clouds the end a bit.

    Sample tested

N : Spices, touch of chocolate and red fruit liqueur. Soft acidity and sweetness, like a green apple crumble. Feels balanced, with a touch of bitterness.

M : soft and bitter, disappointingly light compared to the nose. 60-70% chocolate with a salty twist, bit of pepper and red fruits.

F : On the sweeter side, a bit more spicy too. Ends with a pleasant saline touch.

Edit a few months later, oxygenated : developped on the sherry side with more prominent bitter red fruits. Also something mentholy I didn't have first time. Definitely a good cask, not sure the juice inside was on par. 6/10

    • Nose
      84 84
The influence of the oloroso barrels is clearly perceptible. The nose is slightly vinous, the tannins of the barrel bring a woody note to this whisky. A little too much perhaps because the aromas of red fruits remain too subtle and should have been highlighted.
    • Taste
      83 83
Do not expect a "sherry bomb" as the mouth lacks explosiveness. The attack is smooth, with notes of honey, quince paste. The whisky reveals a little more aftertaste, with more fruity flavors (fruit cake).
    • Finish
      86 86
The finish is surprisingly not so short and emphasizes the fresh side of the red fruits with very pleasant acidity (wild strawberries, raspberries, currants). The best aspect of this whisky.
