So water completely destroyed it for me, there was nothing left, neither in the nose nor in the mouth, a good but not outstanding whiskey, which I would normally have left aside if it wasn't for today's vintage whiskey would have been almost free with 105 €, so the bottle will probably stay closed for the time being, since I still have a remainder of the sample, I will pour it again with a couple of hours lead time, let's see if it actually brings so much
    • Nose
It comes with a neat freshness in the nose, grated lemon peel, the sweet cereal base tone of the grain can also be clearly smelled, ripe apple, behind it comes dark chocolate, slightly floral, grassy, the sherry influence is quite reserved and only becomes apparent a little more time in the glass, slightly nutty, a little sweetness, which also comes with the typical dark fruity notes, but the sour apple, citrus and grain is always dominant and dominant, after the first sip it also becomes something in the nose tart, with more oak
    • Taste
creamy, apple, cereals, dark, a lot of apple, acid, tart, tidy oak, salt, less sweet than expected, with the second sip the sherry now comes through, chocolate, raisins, later also nuts, somehow the mouth had to get used to the oak first and leave room for more with the second sip
    • Finish
Salt, dry, grape skin, tart, very light bittersweet, a hint of mint, the mouth is slightly topped, and then a little sweetness in the end, but a little sweetness in the end, but after the second sip the aftertaste remains very similar, possibly a touch more grainsweetness

Man...This dram is quite an adventure! Not a beginners whisky, that’s for sure.

The first time I drank this, was actually a big disappointment. 1 hour of airtime didn’t do it, water drowned it and more airtime completely killed it. It was more closed then the legs of a continence nun and it, at least, had the same discipline to keep it’s legs closed. But this time I left it to breath for over 3 hours, without any water and in 2 different glasses. One with a wider top and a classic Glencairn to find the complete palate. Everything I write is 3-4 hours after pouring it in.
    • Nose
This is a very mature nose. Overripe tropical fruits like pineapples, Banana’s and lychees. Subtle hints of forest fruit and also vanilla ice cream and honey. After such time in the glass the glue-ish part seems to be completely gone and the alcoholic integration is perfect. There are also hints of lime, hay and a rather big hit of licorice. It reminds me a bit of a dutch candy called ‘trekdrop’.
    • Taste
Slightly dry upon arrival. Sweet, gentle, soft, silky and fruity. Very thick bodied whisky. Again tropical fruits as well as subtle red fruits. A very harmonious palate. Complex and multidimensional. DO NOT ADD WATER, not even a drop. It will drown instantly.
    • Finish
Long. Banana peel, lychees again. Also herbal influences join the palate. An absolute stunning and unexpected twist! Licorice is what remains and sticks for quite a while.

The biggest con of this whisky would be that it needs ridiculously much time in the glass before enjoying it. Not everyone has the time and the need to let it be for 3 hours. But if you do...this is a real treat!

Fresh, very ripe fruit, a slight hint of glue, rum aroma, but all but typically grain
    • Taste
      87 87
Haribo Tropifrutti to the power of 10! Pineapple, cereals to sweet muesli, slightly woody
    • Finish
      80 80
Short, very smooth and sweet, little wood

    • Nose
      88 88
Grain-typical nose, but not too intrusive when it comes to glue and alcohol, you get a lot of the oak straight away, plus light coconut flavors, marzipan, orange jelly,
    • Taste
      90 90
Very pleasant start, creamy, milky and vanilla-tinged, then tangy citrus is added, the oak spreads, slight dryness occurs
    • Finish
      90 90
Very pleasant and creamy smooth finish, nice balance of oak and vanilla, the woodiness is also very well dosed

Grain whiskies I normally leave in the glass for 1 to 1,5 hours to breath. This one took 3 hours of air before it opened up a bit. A few drops of water then did the trick at least on the nose).
    • Nose
      90 90
Beautiful sweetness enters the nose. Vanilla in combination with tropical fruit. This is something you are looking for in grain whiskies.
    • Taste
      86 86
Where the nose is great, the taste cannot completely convince me. Sweet and fruity, but also sharp and slightly bitter.
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium long to long. Very dry and also bitter in the finish.

      (First) Conclusion:
      - Needs hours and hours in the glass
      - Nose is best by far; next dram I will poor without adding water. Maybe the taste will then convince me.

Well, you have to be patient with this one. Really patient. After two hours in the glas there was still that glue’y smell typical for grain whisky. After almost three hours the nose improved and let some sherry notes shine through. The taste is really fruity and also the finish let’s the fruits shine. This Carsebridge has a bit of a sharp taste(after 35 years..) but overal is quite tasty.
