Very balanced, nicely spicy, not too sweet and not too spicy. Not overly complex, but different ... no sherry bomb. I like it.
    • Nose
      87 87
dark fruits, plums, very short cherries, raisins, weak citrus notes, very spicy ... malt, nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon, ground coffee beans, a little vanilla, hair spray
    • Taste
      87 87
spicy, woody, cherries, almonds, harsh forest honey, strong peppermint, some coffee, weak white pepper
    • Finish
      88 88
medium to long, pleasant barrel, nice cherry / honey / peppermint note

Good and well matured Deanston from the sherry barrel. Clear as Deanston. On the palate, I like this burnt caramel best. The nose is a bit simple. All in all a very neat-but also no toppaint.

But you can safely knock out 120 thalers!

    Decent Deanston.
If you need a bit of air, your nose becomes more interesting.
Nice balance between sweetness and spiciness.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was the case that Deanston retired this barrel and therefore resold it. It seems to me like it has a sting. But if you like slightly fermented aromas, this is the place for you. I myself would have great difficulties with the asking price.
    • Nose

The alcohol is well integrated. At room temperature, fermented, light-colored fruits stand out first, which almost disappear as the temperature increases with the hand, then slightly musty.
Cherries, lime, ginger, red currants, mate tea, also slightly tart herbal notes.
    • Taste
      84 84
Amazingly sweet for an Oloroso barrel and not very oily for its old age.
Orange, rose water, liquorice, honey, grapefruit.
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium length. Bitterness, vanilla, manuka honey.

Wow! Complex! For very special moments.
    • Nose
      99 99
sweet and heavy (syrupy). Red dark fruits (towards figs and dates). Clear sherry influence. Light seasoning. Some vanilla in the background. Brown sugar & caramel. Slightly nutty aroma and heather honey. Later also clearly oak and some herbaceous-floral. Banana and peach also appear when he has confessed. Overall an incredibly complex aroma.
    • Taste
      95 95
first soft, then strongly spicy; the 50.1 vol% fits exactly there, but he can also tolerate a few drops of water and then opens even more. Creamy-oily towards walnut. Chocolate sweets, but with a high cocoa content. Sherrynote from Oloroso gets through well. Oak and a certain leather note also come through later.
    • Finish
      95 95
long finish with light spice. The oak note remains in the mouth for a very long time. The chocolate becomes bitter (dark), but is still integrated harmoniously. Something nutty comes back delayed as well as dried plum.

Good malt that needs time in the glass and also benefits from the oxidation in the bottle.

Can not quite keep up with my predecessor (WID: 96237).
But I still have a closed bottle of that. I have to let them compete against each other.
    • Nose
Plum cake. Glazed apricots in butter. Somehow I generally have such buttery notes. Shortbread. Cherry cream candy. Malt sweetness. Rose water. Plasticine. Kaba with whole milk. Some lemon balm.
    • Taste
Oily in the mouth and again buttery. Really juicy eggnog cake with a lot of oil. Neat honey. Toffee. Magenbrot. This rather fresh leather. Then it gets spicier and it tingles. The oak starts.
    • Finish
It is getting drier. The honey is still left. Nuts join. Some freshly cut branches. Oak spice.

Big-bodied, sweet and thick. Not a shy boy at all.
    • Nose
Huh, not what I expected from color & cask type... A very nice, restrained, dark-roast maltiness initially, like root beer or barley candy. Mocha and powdered sugar. A bit closed-up at first, but then the typical Deanston sulphury-weighty-fermentary-diesel/coal fume note appears, alongside lovely forest fruits and wild honey. Consider me convinced.
    • Taste
Chewy and thick, with dark honey, brambles, blackcurrant, and a tarry, oily, dark coal aspect. Leathery and tart, yet with a sweet backbone. Very nice interplay between the dark, nutty Oloroso notes and the malty sweetness and spirit sulphur of the Deanston distillate. A winning combination. If I had to quibble: the sherry is perhaps a bit ... modern, and overt. But it all works a treat, even if it's not for those of us who cherish subtleness above all else.
    • Finish
The palate on repeat: honey, fruits, leather, walnuts.

    • Nose
      80 80
Initially hot alcohol, fermented fruit, no typical sherry note
    • Taste
      82 82
Spicy, caramel, lemon cake, little fruit, definitely no sherry bomb
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium to long, behind a deliciously decent sweet bitterness from the barrel
