Sometimes a successful travel retail bottling, but not at any price. I suspect with a mix of different ages.
    • Nose
      88 88
Nice sherry tones, but not so extremely sherry-heavy despite the 1st Fill Sherry Casks, more freshness on the nose, lighter fruits, clearer citrus notes, vanilla, pastries. Very diverse nose.
    • Taste
      87 87
Lively in the beginning, a little more sharpness and also a little less dark sherry notes than the 15ner. But also very diverse and complex, light acidity and delicately salty notes.
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium to long finish with grapefruit, oak, ethereal freshness, with a little more bitter notes than the 15th.

    Blindtasting No.12 Bottle Boys Calendar

Nose: Dried fruits, light raisins, also red fruits, a few herbs and spices, behind this there is still wood, minimally dirty, a bit livelier with swirls, otherwise settled

Taste: Intense dried fruit, grapes, raisins, quite sweet, the spiciness is very delayed and only really comes into its own after the second sip

Finish: fades away on the sweet dried fruit with a hint of mulled wine spice, medium length

Tip: Sherry cask or sherry finish, maybe also Sauternes, 16 years, 46%
tip region/ distillery; Speyside: Aberlour, Macallan, Tamdhu, Benriach

I'm sure I know the bottling.

The best Tamdhu I've ever had, maybe 2-3% more alcohol would have done the whisky good.
    • Nose
      89 89
Sweetness from dark fruits, citrus note with vanilla. And shortbread or buttery biscuits. coffee flavors.
    • Taste
      90 90
Sherry, on the spicy side. Citrus note brings a fresh note with a slight sharpness. Sea spray with lemony acidity.
    • Finish
      90 90
This dram stays for a very long time! Fruit, spicy oak and citrus. Coffee is still there in the finish and ends in a slight dryness.

    • Nose
      85 85
Floral, herbal, brown sugar. But not particularly spectacular in terms of intensity.
    • Taste
      87 87
A bit bitter on the palate, but quite ok.
    • Finish
      87 87
Departure is clean. Subtly sweet and balanced. For the price, the whisky is nothing for me.

I can hardly understand the high ratings.
For me, this is just a drinkable NAS, nothing more.
    • Nose
      83 83
Nose is a little one-dimensional cute
    • Taste
      85 85
      Fruity, light
    • Finish
      85 85
      Relatively harmonious, like plum wine.

Smell: medium to full bouquet, plums, dried fruit, fine spicy wood, cedar, but overall more on the "light fruity side", orange abrasion, finely woven, vanilla, hazelnuts in the base, alcohol well integrated

Taste: dark chocolate, nice spiciness of wood, lean rather than fat, alcohol more present than on the nose, fine note of bitter almonds, medium-bodied. Reverberation, again on the roasted nutty side with a clear dark chocolate tone

Colour: copper with a reddish tinge, medium water's edge, clear

Conclusion: A successful bottling that is more subtle than loud, the nose in particular is particularly convincing, and the price you have to pay has to be settled in the meantime...

  16. HYTTTTTT scored this whisky 87 points Member Senior

A very good sherry cask whisky, with no bitter bottom, no sulfur smell, full flavor, good level of expression, and good alcohol control.
    • Nose
      86 86
Typical sherry barrel flavor, preserved fruit, toffee, ripe red fruit, a touch of spice, a touch of alcohol
    • Taste
      87 87
      The entrance is sweet, the taste of preserved fruit and toffee is obvious, and the taste of spice comes out in the middle, a little salty, no bitter bottom, and the alcohol sense is well controlled;
The entrance of the cup is very sweet, with a little more acidity from the grapes, and the slightly salty taste is very comfortable. The back part is rich in star anise and cinnamon.
    • Finish
      87 87
The sweet dried fruit is mixed with a strong spice flavor, and then the spice flavor fades away, leaving behind ripe red fruit.

Very nice sherry whisky. Orange spices and some chocolate. Elegantly implemented, no dominant oak, some oiliness. Unfortunately, the price is justified these days.

  19. Spoerkel scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

Powerful sherry aroma meets fruity, woody notes. Much more mature and complex than the younger (10y and 12y) core-range bottlings.

  20. Totoro scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Not worth the price, especially when compared to the 10- and 12-year-old OBs.

This would have needed at least 50% to succeed.
    • Nose
      88 88
Generic sherry nose w/o any off notes.
      Moderately fruity, leathery, leafy, nutty.
More old oak the longer it sits in the glass.
Turns the corner after about 20 minutes when it really begins to show signs of an higher age.
    • Taste
      85 85
A bit watery on the arrival.
Citrus, vanilla, fudge, then more and more oak spice and dark chocolate.
The flavors work well enough, but I'm not of a fan of the mouthfeel: fizzy and thin.
    • Finish
      86 86
Roast coffee and juicy red berries. The dilution really hampers it here as well.

  21. dongolzo81 scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Heavy, rather classic sherry profile, somewhat dusty, minimal but not disturbing sulphur, neither sweet nor bitter, balanced. Departure by the 46% only of medium length. Absolutely delicious and pleasing. The regular price would be a bit sporty for me.

  22. DenverbroncosDuke scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

I suspect a mixture of American and European Sherry Oak because it combines the best of both worlds in terms of sensory factors.
    • Nose
      90 90
Distinct coffee notes, heavy and dark sweetness, quite dominant,
    • Taste
      89 89
Strong sherry, spiciness, freshness, tangy, you can leave it in your mouth for a very long time without being overrun.
    • Finish
      91 91
Very long finish, no trace of dryness, high density and complexity, again coffee with milk.

Sweet and fruity. Light fruits. Grapes with vanilla. Or apple strudel, woodruff.
2 days later dark old sherry. Dark fruits and leather.
    • Taste
      88 88
The fruit remains, a little bit alcoholic
    • Finish
      90 90
      Long fruity finish
