1st Fill Palo Cortado and a sherry hogshead on top, Caol ila can no longer be clearly identified. But doesn't hurt, because from that he does his job well and scores with a nice berry fruit sweetness.
    • Nose
      86 86
Cool smoke, warm marine diesel, a freshly cut meadow. Appears airy and fresh. Dried fruits, grapes, blackberries. The smoke is not too dominant.
    • Taste
      86 86
Strong start with blackberries, raspberries, raisins and dried dates. Mild smoke note that almost disappears behind the fruit and only flows through the glass as a “dry breath”. Mild spices, coffee beans, damp hay.
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium-length and dry, fruity, slightly smoky, with a hint of menthol.

    Nose:
Nice beach nose, algae, spray. The smoke is very, very subtle. Aromas that I attribute to post-ripening are dominant. Dried fruit, hazelnut and a lot of ground almonds. With water there is a certain berry, raspberry and blackberry

    Mouth:
Very sharp step, needs some water. The smoke is also very subtle in the mouth. Some seaweed sheets for sushi.
Here, too, sherry-dominated. Nice combination of nuts and berries. With plenty of water (that it ends up at 40-45%), it also gets a little better balance.

    Finish:
Very astringent on its own, more accessible with water, berry. However, it still leaves a slight furiness in the mouth. Some espresso.

    86/100

    Conclusion:
The barrel is very dominant here, and irons a lot. Certainly a delicious whisky, but personally I prefer it when the distillate doesn't go down like that.

Nose: First of all a smoke note that I would describe as "greasy". Creamy-greasy maybe. Basically pretty "In Your Face", especially in terms of sweetness and fruitiness, somehow "loud". Violently icing-sweet. In terms of fruit, for me today papaya and star fruit, because there is also a certain acidity. Tart and nutty sherry notes. In addition, there is oak wort, as well as some wooden muff in phases and at some point a nice sea breeze and algae.

Mouth: Walk by the sea - mussels and algae. Coffee. Ash. The alcohol is a bit too acrid for me here today. After a little more time in the mouth, it becomes more fruity. Spicy, sour and sweet.

Finish: tart and ashy, again the seaweed note. Tart with a green nut. In places, however, the sugar sweetness flashes again. Finally, a tart wood note occupies the tongue, paired with a lot of cold ash.

Conclusion: I have had it in my glass several times and basically like it a lot. Sometimes it is a bit too "confused" and unbalanced for me, the aromas do not come together to form a harmonious overall picture. In addition, the 57.4% are a bit too snappy for me here.

This Caol Ila here is a stunner. Heavy smoke in the beginning, but such an ashen, slightly fat camp fire smoke.

On the tongue he is even more extreme.

Sweet in the nose and then sour. Bright fruits, with a rich, heavy sweet in the basic character, but still the finish is very restrained.

The alcohol is too strong for me, but it tolerates water well.

With water, the smoke becomes vieeeeel Milder and also round, but is still present.

Actually not bad but a little unbalanced by the extreme banana-like sweetness and the pungent peat smoke. Not my taste.
    • Nose
Aromatic ham smoke, subtle dried fruit note, salt or better Vesperplatte with ham and fruits. Then a lot of sherry, spicy Alpine bread and chocolate.
Sweeter with water and very much like gelle bananas, peat smoke and salt.
    • Taste
Dry, sherrytönig and surprise fruity. Then salt ham smoke, oak, tang and herbaceous accents.
Very sweet with water jelly bananas, salt and peat smoke.
    • Finish
Long, very fruity with dried pears and figs, with nuts and peat smoke.

very interesting, a bit edgy, very good drinkable, sweet, nut and cinnamon!
    • Nose
sweet, creamy, banana, celery, ashy smoke, vanilla, hazelnut, slightly flowery, has a bit of a hazelnut, almonds, very nutty overall,
    • Taste
intense, oily on the tongue, sweet, also nuts, vanilla, cinnamon, quite spicy at the beginning (in the second sip better), banana, the smoke is covered by the sweetness, but brings with it an ashy dryness, Big Red chewing gum, all right Not so strong cinnamon tasted while whisky
    • Finish
Vanilla and banana, smoke sticking to the tongue, creamy finish
