It's certainly not a run-of-the-mill bourbon, it has no dominant vanilla sweetness. It's nice to explore, but hard to get. It's spicyness tends to dominate.
    • Nose
      81 81
Quite shy, but reveals a rather unique profle with cherry, pear and caramel, but also less common bourbon-notes like elderflower, rose water, leather and even wet dog.
    • Taste
      83 83
Sweet fruits (cherry, raspberry), it's spicy too with cinnamom and cardamom, but chilipepper dominate. Feels a bit oaky.
    • Finish
      85 85
Long, warm and spicy. Cherry again, honey, apple sweets, and curry spices.

i must have put too much water in this because the flavours are really dulled.
a safe score of 75 from me.

    So-so.
Not impressed, the aroma is not bad, but the taste and aftertaste fail.
Heavy, prickly, did not add water.

Have to say I'm not a big fan of bourbon at the beginning.
Get better with a drop of water.
    • Nose
      76 76
      Oak, vanilla, brown sugar, banana
    • Taste
      68 68
Alcool feel is present (cask strenght), butter. Disrupting alcool feel go away with a drop of water. sugar and a taste of little fruit appear
    • Finish
      75 75
      Spices and corn sirup

    Blind tasting:

fragrance: full, rich, green herbs, orange, vanilla, honey, linseed oil, leather, tobacco, dusty wood
sweet fruit, apple, peach undertones - slightly more grassy with water

taste: sharp, firm in the alcohol and some bitter - wood, vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper, green soap, coniferous forest. Oily in texture.

finish: light, drying wood, bitter herbs, pine needles again and vanilla.

A very good one with lots things to love. Massive flavours with a good balance. I can imagine why many bourbon drinkers have become fans, which (on the downside) has made it a difficult one to find at this moment.
    • Nose

Typical rye nose (I think) with a clear sweet site. Caster sugar, mint tea, chocolates, varnished wood and a sweet citrus note. Then more rye bread and roasted pumpkin seeds. Then more wood, but also more fennel, dill and aniseed. Really beautiful! Lots of oranges, caramelised lemon skin, caramelised ginger and smoked wood. Vanilla is definitely there, but instead of a disturbance it causes close harmony with the other scents. Then more spices enter, more wood spices. Nutmeg, cardamon and pepper. Mixed with orange they are clearly present, but again the balance is present.
    • Taste
      88 88
Fierce with a evident alcohol kick, but when then retreats I get beautiful rye bread, fresh pumpkinseed bread and mint tea. The latter sweetened and particularly strong. Caster sugar, smoked polished wood, candied oranges, lemon-lime soda, the initial palate leans much more towards the bourbon side. More wood spices (nutmeg, cardamon, curry) mingled with citrus peel. Toast (the rye bread is mostly gone), dark chocolate and roasted coffee beans. Long bitter, slightly fruity and very spicy finish.

    • Nose
A lot of new wood, spicy and a bit dusty. 'Zure matten'. Faint vanilla and amaretto. With water it turns towards cucumber and rhubarb.
    • Taste
Wood resin, dry and spicy. Rhubarb too.
    • Finish
Now shifting towards vanilla and banana.

  10. Pulteney83 scored this whisky 84 points Expert Junior

Nose: wooden cupboard, musty, old scent, hints of spice, rye, caramel, little sweet and vanilla, peach in the background, cinnamon and cocoa
Taste: sharp, rye, herbal, that musty note doesn't really come back. Needles, wood juice.
Finish: bourbon, spicy red herbs, herbal, rye, pine needles, eucalyptus
