- 1545) Oban, 2004/2018, 15YO, Montilla Fino Cask Finish, Distillers Edition OD 167.FD
N- Always resembling a fine confectionery dram that brought smiles to your face. Sharp citrus zest alongside sweet caramel, fruit get creamy and thickened to paste of grounded nuts. Touches of mineral with rubbery saltiness developed at the tail which rounded up very well. (90/22)
P- Sweet dried fruits with peppery ginger comes along, velvetly and creamy with underlying sweet floral and garden notes. (87/21)
F- Medium long, subtle and gentle, with popping mint candy and layers of stimulating juicy toasted spicy oak. (87/21)
Weighted Rate - 86pt
green apple, strawberry, grapes, a little peach, honey, some earth and something very strange: that could be what you often read maritime / salty, slightly citrus orange, slightly cinnamon
Disappointing ... apple, just a little honey, lemon, apple peel, some pepper
- Sherry finish:
N: packaged fruit, spices, caramel
B: it's a bit spicy at the beginning, a little spice, a bit salty, iodine rather mineral, then maritime pine needles (salt in it!), Very present fruits, mixing sweet pear and apple and undifferentiated exotic fruits,
back woody, and oranges in the end
F: fruits, spices, some caramel and toasted wood for a medium finish.
- A typical Oban with a lot of salt. The strong fruitiness makes it interesting, but without that it would be too complex. This whisky is an absolutely round thing from the nose to the finish. You have to like the saltiness.
Sweet and fruity with passion fruit and pear. In between salt appears. Malt and a hint of campfire smoke. Caramel.
Very soft and starting with exotic fruits. Then it gets sharper and salt and also very light smoke come through, whereby the fruitiness is always clearly perceptible. The alcohol is still acceptable included.
Malt, peppery alcohol and again the exotic fruits determine the long finish. Bitterness is barely present.
