Let's dig into a sample form an Xmas swap! This looks pink and tasty, but might be I'm a little weary of that proof statement...

Wow! WIne bomb for sure, you like Mortlach... this is a meaty as a Mortlach. Bordeaux Barrique indeed... this is like a Merolt... way bigger than you'd expect it to be and it adds a lot of fresh red fruits and depth to the dram, bt also a load of spice and heat. Mascerated berries in red wine, beef fat, old oak staves or worn decking. Rich spice cake and sweet amlts to back it up. Some herbal bitterness here too, something to cut the fat.

Wow... spice crazy! This is a big dram, heat and tingles throughout! Spice leads into more spice... I'm getting a little of everything here form oak spices to oddities like green cardamom and burnt sage, meat.. like a raosted beef should and wine dregs. Red wine beef gravy... bitters, like Creole bitters and some maraschino cherry syrup sweets too. Not uncouth, just a load to take in at once... water seems to bring the spices up, not settle it.

Dry. Oaky tannins and sweet vanilla with some serious heat. Prickles of Szechuan peppercorns and prickle pear fruits with oak shavings... pencil shavings maybe and something else. That wine permeates it totally and brings more red fruit basket and some farmy composty notes to the finish.

  6. ffmdino did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

wow, I found it very challenging and difficult
    no painting for me
would have expected more barrel influence
Time and water make it better
    • Nose
a subdued start, delicious red fruit / berries are more, not a bit musty !!, red wine, grain, slightly metallic, minimal cheese, very ripe brown banana, vanilla and sweetness come, a chemical note like the eraser or the gum under the carpet
with water: pleasant, more wine, red grapes, slightly cinnamon, slightly moldy wood
    • Taste
soft, oily, full on the palate
Oak, the alcohol tingles a bit, red notes, very tart, dark chocolate ~ 65-70%
with water: creamier, more red berries, slightly rubbery, tart and spicy
    • Finish
tart oak notes, spicy, astringent, lots of wood notes
with water: chocolate ~ 70%, sweetness comes very easily later, then more red berries

    Color: rose gold
Nose: Sweet, powerful strawberry, subtle plum, cherry jam, a bit dusty, the Brennereicharakter seems still clear by (clear Quark notes). Overall, quite pleasant. The alcohol, however, stings pretty much.
Palate: hawthorn, rosehip, wood, less sweet than expected, spicy, slightly fleshy, alcoholic.
Finish: long with sea buckthorn, bitterness and mushroom ragout.
Conclusion: The nose promised more and something else. Not a bad malt, but on the palate rather a strong, quite good ex-bourbon. For what he offers, he is then overpriced.
