Whisky Reviews for Glengoyne 1993

The sweet port influence is clear in this glengoyne. A gift to my brother in law when he visited the distillery (as I did some years ago).
    • Nose
Figs and dates. Rhubard. But also balsamico vinegar. Resinous. Some earthy notes. It's all quite bitter and sour, but complex in my view. The port influence is clear.
    • Taste
Quite creamy. Sappy and sweet oakiness (port?). Stewed fruits. Sandalwood. Raisins. Almond nuts. Chocolate. Cinnamon.
    • Finish
Medium long. Pine. Tannic. A bit peppery.

Its pretty decent but I am bored to death with sherried whisky (even allowing for the Port Finish) at the moment and it takes something of quality to interest me sherry wise

(like the old 8 yr Aberlour 50% Cube bottle)

It gets a respectable score anyway because it is well put together and I like Glengoyne also.

    Edit

Its opens up nicely with water.
    • Nose
Dark plum, prune, currants, crème Brule, burnt brown sugar, caramel sauce, dark treacle.
    • Taste
Very smooth at first but then the alcohol shows up with some bitterness and the usual plum, prune, Christmas cake combo
    • Finish
Good medium length with a slightly bitter finish
