I like it dirty baby so for me it's a winner
This nose is exactly what I suspect from a Ben Nevis. This is what I like to call a dirty whisky. I got lots of old cheese aromas on the nose ... even some sweaty socks. Another thing I immediately smell is the smell of rusty metal. I don't kow if the frog on the label primed my brain into a certain think pattern but I even made some association with the smell of a swamp.
The taste is really powerful and totally different from the nose. The sip starts with a spicy kick from the alcohol and turns over in a lot of sweetness: honey, vanilla and even some turkish fruit. There is a strong sour accent in there as well. When having it in the mouth for a few seconds theres that waxy feeling that I often get with Clynelish, some Fettercairn and some Ben Nevis of course.
The finish is really another different fase in this whisky. While the sip was sweetness al over you now have some more nutty tones with almonds, walnuts and even a hint of nutmeg. The finish is quitelong but transforms in the end ina sort of dry bitterness with tones of orange zeste.
