BRACHADAIR: (base for the William Lawson blend!)
intense nose on woody, vanilla, well integrated malt. On the palate, macerated fruit on the applesauce and pears left on the corner of the fire. The almost sweet spices arrive with a little cocoa, it's honeyed, the sensation young sherry arrives for the fruits but not for the molds. interesting final sweetness, cinnamon, cooked fruits.

Full, intense, slightly pepper. Spicy, cinnamon. Fruity, oranges, and honey sweet. Later on again some cappuccino.

    Apple Juice

Macduff, founded in 1962, is one of Scotland’s youngest distilleries. It was built specifically to provide malt for the famous blend William Lawson’s. But the malt is also released as a single. For the longest time this was under the label Glen Deveron, but that was recently rebranded as simply The Deveron, named after the river from which the distillery takes its water. Independent bottlers like Macduff as well. Brachadair – a Belgian bottler – released this 10 years old that matured on a sherry cask.

Soft, sweet nose on baked apples, but also fresh Granny Smith apples and even some appel cider. That’s a lot of apples. The whole is upholstered with quite a bit of sweet cream butter and Werther’s Original. Very accessible and fresh, but candy-like at the same time.

Boy, this is quite quaffable for a whisky close to 58%. Sturdy, sure, but not scorching. Pretty sweet on again a truckload of apples in all guises and shapes. With a hint of citrus. Nicely oily, by the way. It sticks to the teeth. Lovely spiciness too, with ginger, liquorice, a touch of tannins and some cloves, albeit way in the back. Perilously drinkbable.

The finish is warm and long, sweet and dark.

Sturdy apple juice from Macduff, that takes water well. Bang for your buck! Thanks, Patrick.
