Very solid thing, has nice delicious bourbon notes, but nothing really special and he lacks a little punch.
    • Nose
Beautiful banana planted in honey, vanilla, marzipan, toffee, marzipan, pear, lychee, apricot, leather and some light pepper
    • Taste
Much beautiful Bourbon sweetness, apricot, peach, a lot of honey, litchi again, honeydew melon, banana, powdered sugar, ginger, tick white pepper, sweet malt
    • Finish
A little more green apple, pear, apricot, malt, medium

    Baby Bum
With demand for Japanese whisky easily trumping what’s on the market, the larger producers (Nikka & Suntory) have taken all age statement expressions of the market. Until they have stocks that have reached a respectable age again, we have to make do with NAS releases. This Yoichi (from the Nikka stables) was finished on bourbon casks.
Delicious full nose on leather, vanilla, strawberries and a touch of pepper. But so soft! Softer than a baby’s bum, truly! Bread spread, woodsmoke, some oriental incense. Simply wonderful.
Less sweet than the nose promised, but nicely balanced on the palate. It dances on the tongue. Some white fruit (apples, pears), vanilla and lovely notes of wood without being oaky. Pretty herbal with some mint. Very nice.
The finish may be somewhat short, but it’s refreshing.
Who cares about age when whisky is this good. And a real Japanese to boot! But around 180 to even 200 EUR for this bottle, is ridiculously expensive.

I've had a number of Yoichi, including many single casks. This is a poor imitation of the ones I've tried. Yoichi is one of my favorite distilleries, back in the days, I guess. Nowadays, there is nothing good coming out, and that's sad.

A subdued nose, sweet lemon, slight chalk, harmless vanilla.
    • Taste

Quite a bit of char and smoke. Quite tasty. Sweet and savory, with just a bit of salt. Oily. Reminiscent of a modern springbank. A good mouthfeel, but no oomph here, unfortunately. A mistake at 46%, and probably less than 10 years old. They should have done it at 55% like many of their bottlings, but squeezing a bit of extra profit while pleasing the masses probably make better business sense. Sad.

A bit of chalk and cardboard at the end.

It's a balanced and successful dram. Almost no peat for me and it's a shame, it could have added to the dram.
    • Nose
Nose much more successful than the Miyagikyo.
Light veil of smoke. Wood, leather, pepper, light pepper.
      Vanilla, goji berry.
    • Taste
In the mouth it's more green. Apple, pear, pepper, mint. It is also very balanced. The wood is always present and well melted. It's fresh.
    • Finish
Finale fresh on mint, wood, green apple.
