NOSE: Medium sweet peat smoke. Sweet, “yellow” (light, grainy) malt notes. Moderate (modest) bourbon notes of vanilla, dried yellow fruits, banana, some tropical fruit notes. Water opens the nose. No significant new element arise from the glass but the sweet notes increase some and it becomes more buttery. (86p)
TASTE: The arrival is more smokey than the nose, with bonfire ashes and elements of tar. On the mid palate some sweetness, some liquorice, ginger and pepper, again hints of tar. It takes water well but that doesn’t change the whisky much. More wood spice and more barley sweetness come out. (85p)
FINISH: Sweet and peppery, with a light alcohol nip. With water the exit becomes less sweet, more peppery and, a bit watery (sic), without the alcohol nip. (84p)
TOTAL SCORE: 85 points.
