How old is this bottling or do I assume its Nas?
84000 bottles. at least they can`t call it a limited edition.
So what justifies the price tag?
Why is this only in travel retail, is not good enough for regular shop?
Here is a concept for Macallan, stop fooling the masses into thinking they are getting a whisky worth your asking price.

    Macallan says this:-
The new Macallan Concept range is designed to celebrate the world’s visionaries and challenge convention, with the first release, Concept No. 1, inspired by surrealism.
Concept No. 1 is a no-age-statement malt created using ‘innovative production techniques’ – instead of first being matured in ex-Bourbon casks, it has been given a Sherry cask maturation first before being aged further in ex-Bourbon for an equal amount of time.
A spokesperson for Macallan said the process ‘represents a play on the more traditional approach, in which whisky is matured in former Bourbon barrels before being finished for a short period of time in Sherry-seasoned casks’.

WTF, what are they on about traditional, are they joking, I could wrap this whole manufactured explanation in one word
Sorry for the rant, people but I am sick and tired or corporate bollocks and lies.

I saw 3 motherfuckers rating this 100, sincerely suggest the merchants go to hell and leave Whiskybase at peace.

And thus I'll rate this a 40, to respond the incredible high rating bullshits for this little charming bottling.

Remember the hype around the Macallan Edition No. 1 four years ago? Released at 90 EUR, but now being sold for a tenfold (which cannot be said about the de Edition No 2, 3 and 4). And now Macallan launches a new series. You’ve guessed it: many bottle flippers hurried to get these and offer them up via auction. It worked. For a few weeks at least. The first bottles sold for around 300 EUR but now the prices is coming down to the original 150 EUR. After all, there are 84.000 bottles made. No need to panic. The packaging is inspired on the world of surreal art. Well chosen, eh? The whisky first matured in sherry cask and then got to sleep the same amount of time in bourbon casks. How long exactly, I do not know.

The nose is creamy and sweet. Very sweet. Lemon zest and candied ginger, nuts (mostly almonds) and green banana. Pineapple cubes. Hint of Turkish Delight and some Graeffe sugar. Butterscotch. Not bad at all, textbook Macallan, but not flabbergasting either.

The body is rather light. Too light to my taste. Just a tad oily and immediately spicy sweet. Again all kinds of citrus (lime, lemon, bergamot), zesty as well, and hints of dried tropical fruits. Pineapple, some banana and mango. Pretty good. The spices soften up quickly and lean towards ginger and other woodspices.

The finish is soft, mildly drying but pretty short.

This was better than I feared. Having said that: another NAS at drinking strength? It’s getting old. But, hey, somebody has to pay for that new distillery, right?

If I should have guessed blindly, I would have said "A whisky from a bad and dead barrel. A maximum of 5 years old and no one knew exactly why should be bottled."
With the knowledge that this is a Macallan that costs a good deal of money I have to say:
"A whisky from a bad and dead barrel. A maximum of 5 years old and nobody knew exactly why it should be bottled."
100 € for the packaging and 9,90 € for the content! But who wants packaging. More is not worth the whisky.

To be honest, this is a whisky in the category 30 € to 49 €. Macallan must probably finance the new Distillery. 84,000 bottles are launched. Those who initially paid 200 and more euros for a bottle should not be too mad, because the prices are expected to fall even further. Currently, specialist dealers call for between € 110 and € 125. In a few months, our Dutch friends will offer the bottle for under € 100 ... And that, in my opinion, is still too expensive for the content.

Dear Macallans, if you continue like that, you'll eventually hit the collectors market and the reputation of your brand. Just fill good whisky for a fair price. You still have good whisky. And in the long run, fair prices are worthwhile. Shows the market again and again ...

    • Nose
Initially light, shallow, even smooth, it gives cooked fruits. The sherry slowly emerges, in its nutty version. Becomes more and more greedy. Appears vanilla and toffee, beautifully. Roasted notes, a hint of sulfur itself. Jam of red fruits.
      Patience rewarded!
    • Taste
Soft touch. The reduction is correct. Some fruits - and even a note of banana, which fade quickly.
    • Finish
Medium in length on caramel and aromatic herbs, rather delicate.

I had a priori very negative on this NAS, it's finally rather positive.

      Nose 4/5
      Mouth 2/5
      Final 3/5
