How old is this bottling or do I assume its Nas?
84000 bottles. at least they can`t call it a limited edition.
So what justifies the price tag?
Why is this only in travel retail, is not good enough for regular shop?
Here is a concept for Macallan, stop fooling the masses into thinking they are getting a whisky worth your asking price.

    Macallan says this:-
The new Macallan Concept range is designed to celebrate the world’s visionaries and challenge convention, with the first release, Concept No. 1, inspired by surrealism.
Concept No. 1 is a no-age-statement malt created using ‘innovative production techniques’ – instead of first being matured in ex-Bourbon casks, it has been given a Sherry cask maturation first before being aged further in ex-Bourbon for an equal amount of time.
A spokesperson for Macallan said the process ‘represents a play on the more traditional approach, in which whisky is matured in former Bourbon barrels before being finished for a short period of time in Sherry-seasoned casks’.

WTF, what are they on about traditional, are they joking, I could wrap this whole manufactured explanation in one word
    Bullshit
Sorry for the rant, people but I am sick and tired or corporate bollocks and lies.

    Surreal

Remember the hype around the Macallan Edition No. 1 four years ago? Released at 90 EUR, but now being sold for a tenfold (which cannot be said about the de Edition No 2, 3 and 4). And now Macallan launches a new series. You’ve guessed it: many bottle flippers hurried to get these and offer them up via auction. It worked. For a few weeks at least. The first bottles sold for around 300 EUR but now the prices is coming down to the original 150 EUR. After all, there are 84.000 bottles made. No need to panic. The packaging is inspired on the world of surreal art. Well chosen, eh? The whisky first matured in sherry cask and then got to sleep the same amount of time in bourbon casks. How long exactly, I do not know.

The nose is creamy and sweet. Very sweet. Lemon zest and candied ginger, nuts (mostly almonds) and green banana. Pineapple cubes. Hint of Turkish Delight and some Graeffe sugar. Butterscotch. Not bad at all, textbook Macallan, but not flabbergasting either.

The body is rather light. Too light to my taste. Just a tad oily and immediately spicy sweet. Again all kinds of citrus (lime, lemon, bergamot), zesty as well, and hints of dried tropical fruits. Pineapple, some banana and mango. Pretty good. The spices soften up quickly and lean towards ginger and other woodspices.

The finish is soft, mildly drying but pretty short.

This was better than I feared. Having said that: another NAS at drinking strength? It’s getting old. But, hey, somebody has to pay for that new distillery, right?

If I should have guessed blindly, I would have said "A whisky from a bad and dead barrel. A maximum of 5 years old and no one knew exactly why should be bottled."
With the knowledge that this is a Macallan that costs a good deal of money I have to say:
"A whisky from a bad and dead barrel. A maximum of 5 years old and nobody knew exactly why it should be bottled."
100 € for the packaging and 9,90 € for the content! But who wants packaging. More is not worth the whisky.

Available from Jan 2019 at airports globally for about 125 Euro

    • Nose
Initially light, shallow, even smooth, it gives cooked fruits. The sherry slowly emerges, in its nutty version. Becomes more and more greedy. Appears vanilla and toffee, beautifully. Roasted notes, a hint of sulfur itself. Jam of red fruits.
      Patience rewarded!
    • Taste
Soft touch. The reduction is correct. Some fruits - and even a note of banana, which fade quickly.
    • Finish
Medium in length on caramel and aromatic herbs, rather delicate.

I had a priori very negative on this NAS, it's finally rather positive.

      Enthusiasm:
      Nose 4/5
      Mouth 2/5
      Final 3/5

I can understand it when I see this degree, but in order to prevent being slapped, let’s not talk about it.

Eyes: Golden Scent Nose: Ginger, cereals, low-quality butter, cocoa butter substitute, sour gas, bad smell, then let us wake up.
Cream, oak, berries, sesame biscuits, red berry skin, alcohol, the taste is okay, at least there are no stale elements. Taste Palate: red berries, slightly sour, medium sweet, slightly bitter, oak, cigarette case, candied orange Skin, whole wheat European bag, a bit of ginseng tea. Finish: medium, raspberry sauce, citrus hard candy, wood body. Body: Ah, this lonely, watery body, slightly oily

    Nose: 84/100
    Palate: 85/100
    Finish: 84/100
    Body: 83/100
Overall: 84/100, I wanted to be black, but I didn't get it, but I believe there will be another chance

Just a quick nosing...won't give this one too much attention...

Ok nose with the familiar sulphury note of Macallan, mixed with some vanilla. Some banana peel, green herbs and slightly bitter green apples appear.

Really thin in the mouth. Really immature whisky in the vatting I believe, and watered down too much.

Just oaky bitterness in the aftertaste, which (unfortunately) lasts quite long. Some sweet vanilla in the very end, which is some improvement.

I had the opportunity to taste this Macallan at a friend's house, really disappointment, me who initially thought I would buy one, I'll keep my money for another bottle.
This is a NAS whisky for Macallan label buyers but it is certain that the ratings above 85 (and again I am generous) are not justified in relation to the quality of this whisky.
The most knowledgeable members rated this whisky between 74 and 87, and new members generally put higher notes (for resale probably, damage to the objectivity of criticism).

Smell Nose: The acidity of the new wine has even developed a bad smell, rotten melon peel, plum, apple cider vinegar, yogurt peel, iron bucket, cement.

Taste Palate: melon skin, rust, wood chips, ginger beer, camphor balls.

After rhyme Finish: Medium, melon skin, rust, wood chips, ginger.

Body: A medium-bodied wine with a simple structure, no greasy feeling, and balance can't be talked about, but it has quite a bit of spring water texture and has obtained some easy to drink.

He is here at the Hong Kong airport for tasting.
Costs around 135 €. Just take a look...

    Oh! Herb, spicy.
    Heavy wood notes.
    Do not taste sherry, sweetie.

    Not a typical Macallan.
A lot of marketing, little behind.

    I'll wait for Concept Number 2 ...

In the middle of the law, the smelly good McAllen new "limited" NAS
    • Nose
      86 86
      Smell: The moment the aroma rushes into the nose, it's great! Creamy toffee, ginger cola, freshly cut red apple, a little raisin, like a dried fruit shop that opens the cabinet door, the leather tastes but not obvious;
    • Taste
      82 82
      Entrance: the sense of alcohol is not obvious, the slight sense of tannin, lemon, many lemons, a little bit of lime, scent of sugar-free ginger cola, spicy spices, orange peel, a hint of creamy sugar; added After the water, the tannin feeling will be reduced, and the oily feeling will be reflected, more like a hard butterscotch;
    • Finish
      81 81
Tail rhyme: ginger, dried fruit, slightly fermented alcohol, some woody aroma, vanilla, long aftertaste.
