Whisky Reviews for Craigellachie 2008 LMDW

  1. Syleo scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

A rather classic, young ex-bourbon cask profile, which has its charm with the white wine-like combination of light fruit sweetness and chalky acidity and dryness, but unfortunately remains a bit too acidic and bitter and thin overall and quickly flies away.
    • Nose
      86 86
For the pale straw gold, the first nose convinces with a surprisingly intensely sweet and fruity character. Gooseberry cake with meringue base and a spoonful of honey, ripe banana, creamy sweets and ginger jam then lead into a grassy impression of French culinary herbs and damp hay with an unexpectedly flashing, lilac-like alcohol tinge. However, the sweetness of the fruitcake keeps coming back in the nose, in the end almost like wine gum apple rings that meet Red Bull.
    • Taste
      79 79
The first impression on the palate is fruity-sweet with gooseberries, green apples, a bowl of fresh fruit salad, in turn complemented by ginger spiciness, cookies & cream and a handful of sawdust of light beech wood. Acidity and bitterness as from a sweetened grapefruit cloud the otherwise pleasant impressions somewhat, which gradually become thinner and lose their character.
    • Finish
      80 80
In the finish, ginger jam and gooseberry cake also retain the defining characteristics, honey and herb sweets, marzipan, apple peel and slightly dry, "dusty" meringue, chalk and sawdust combine to create a similar finish to that of a strong Pinot Blanc with a little more wood and vanilla.

    ● The dress.
Gray gold. light and regular tears, fine and rapid drops.

    ● The nose.
Lemon and vanilla, herbamare salt and pepper, dried celery powder. Some flowers: Violet and acacia directing naturally towards sweet honey and finally buxom.

    ● The mouth.
Very tender, lots of vanilla and white flowers such as peony, violet and acacia, finally, the fruit shows on the pear.
The face takes a more mature register on wood and pepper, end of mouth on licorice.

    ● The final.
Short on flowers and vanilla licorice.

Yeah. it is well done but I will not dwell on it.

If it had to be given a subjective note, it would be an 84.
