Fresh, maritime, distinct sweetness, Demerara sugar, cherry, raisins, marzipan, a handful of dark, dried fruits, milk chocolate, just a hint of smoke and ever-increasing apricots. Intense barrel influence, but it is dosed just right. You can feel the age, you can feel the sherry, I like it a lot!
    • Taste

Sweet and full with a slightly oily texture. Extremely condensed fruit flavors hit my tongue. There are prunes, Organgen, dates, a little peach and apricots again, but here in jam form. The keg is clearly noticeable and contributes neat spice notes. I can find nutmeg and carnations. With a few seconds on the tongue makes a pleasant pepper note noticeable. In the background, there is a bit of smoke, which gives the whole thing a bit more complexity. The 55.3% Vol. Does not notice the malt at all.
    • Finish
      89 89
Long, Demerara sugar, plum compote, oak, white pepper, honey, a few herbs and a bit bitter. The finish reminds me of Porter (beer).

A beautiful malt that may seem a bit too unspectacular to some, which it may be. But its cleanliness, paired with fine maritime notes and this balance are already very first cream! Reminds me of Bunnahabhain rather than Caol Ila!

Nice whisky that, although unpeated, does not hide its island influence. The 4 years more in the barrel can be clearly seen in comparison to the 12yo SV.
I save more notes, the nerds have already described everything ;-)

Significantly better than the successor from the same vintage bottled in 2019. Less fresh wood, more restraint and balance. Very clean and round, but with clear coastal characteristics. Has plenty of reserves and can take a few drops of water.
    • Nose
      89 89
Nice clean sherry nose. Would tap on US oak here, too, but the wood itself is much more reserved than in 2019, leaving more space for the sherry and distillate flavors. Very nice, classic Oloroso notes, plus a fine minerality that the successor lacks. Gravy, cranberries, a dash of iodine tincture, sea salt, herbs, honey ... Very harmonious and delicious, even if I could imagine that some of them may already be * too * round and smooth. Water makes the coastal character (salt & minerals) stand out even more clearly, it then also becomes a little more "rustic", almost with a slight Laddie-like impact on the farm. Becomes more and more interesting with water + time; could then almost go towards 90.
    • Taste
      89 89
Tart, tangy and at the same time salty-spicy start. Get started on the palate, it inevitably makes your mouth water. The sherry first collects and only really becomes present from the middle. Leather, sour cherries, winter spices, dark chocolate, honey, plus a bourbon-like charcoal association.
Really good drinking whisky with enough facets (and potential for dilution) to reward longer work.
    • Finish
      88 88
Medium length, nice salty, chocolatey and creamy.

Wonderfully balanced between nose, button and finish. Very intense on a fruity line. Characterized through and through inlaid plums and slightly bitter chocolate. A little water is recommended for drinking. Very intense taste experience.
    • Nose
      91 91
Prugne, overripe sweet plums, pickled cherries, dried apricots, slightly nutty.
Overall very spicy and malty sweet.
    • Taste
      92 92
slightly bitter, overripe dark fruits and berries, dried plums, prugne, whole milk chocolate, medium-intensive Christmas spices (gingerbread), honey
with water: extremely sweet and wine-like, but overall recommended
    • Finish
      89 89
Sweet, slightly bitter, nice woody and later grassy and salty.
      Rather dry but very long.

Nose: gentle peat gives way to a Flaming Christmas pudding note, chocolate, cookies, bitter almond; in the background there is also something earthy; at the next sniff I have a young, winey note of sherry, smokiness; then a violent, "woody" sweetness in places, later it appears leathery, then roasted almond again ... all over the place, but nicely done.

Mouth: very dry, tannic, spicy, earthy-peaty, oak muff, sometimes a little soapy.

Finish: dusty, dry, slightly menthol-like, herbal aroma, tart sherry acid, but at the end I have nougat notes.

In the nose it offers a lot, in the mouth it is a little too demanding in places. The somewhat musty dryness and the tartness is sometimes a little too pronounced for me. It takes a while for my palate to adjust. Still a top malt for me.
