1508) Bunnahabhain, 1997/2018, 20YO, Palo Cortado Cask Finish, Limited Release
    • Nose
N- Boozy dark stout notes with abundance of black fruits, think of blackcurrant, purple dark plum, marzipan and mashed dark raisins. Just as it get darker, burning wax candles brightened up with underlying rough peat smokes, sleek citrus vanilla cream, some eucalyptus, peppercorn and briny muskiness. Talkative, evolving and lasting. (92/23)
    • Taste
P- Dry sherry with sweet dark fruits dancing on the tongue, along spicy peat, burnt salt, medicinal and dark stout-y notes. Richness developed from the back with smokes bitter chocolate. Rugged with finesse and meticulously balanced with unpretentious complex mouth coat. Subtle brininess whirling on initially but slap on your face with satisfaction like Uncle Roger slapping his rice sack, love it. (95/24)
    • Finish
F- Long, huge dram with eager to pleased attitude. Lovely brines medicinal residue that linger at the back, minty in the middle and echoing crisp dryness at the front. (92/23)

B/B- 95/24 Flawlessly balanced. Wee short on coastal notes initially but blossom and evolved well throughout the sipping session. Inspiring and with this quality, writing notes never a task.

      Weighted Rate- 94p

A very good Bunna, unfortunately at a staggering price.
    • Nose
We are first surprised by the aromas of sticky soy sauce, sea salt, cooked vegetables and varnish. After a while the sweetness of sherry emerges. It consists of forest fruits: blackberries and blueberries. Then a bit of anise. Distinct roasted brown sugar, a handful of dried walnuts and…. smoke. .
    • Taste
very oily, everything clings to the mouth. delicate smoke, delicious dark chocolate with cranberries, forest fruits in the smoke, varnish, roasted nuts with salt and black pepper. Lots of oak spices. Maybe some earthiness with mushrooms?
    • Finish
oaky, a bit smoky, the power of red sweet and sour fruit, anise, dark chocolate, a bit of honey and…. sea salt and iodine. Medium-long.

Many months later with a 3/4 full bottle, it has turned sour. Unsure if its enjoyable nor drinkable but one thing for sure, I ain't drinking anymore of it.

I often call my cups of lapsang souchong tea 'my whisky tea' as a joke, although its smokiness was kind of different from smoky whiskies I'd tasted. Until now!
Really, this IS whisky tea, as in: This is the whisky very very close to lapsang souchong tea. Especially in the nose.

Nice bonfire smoke, roasted meat, salty, bacon. And then foremost really this lapsang souchong tea, wood, some notes of orange far behind. But yeah, this lapsang souchong tea it is, accompanied by some alcohol.
    • Taste
      87 87
Nice and tingling, licorice, orange, salty. Some roasted meat again, and still some hints of lapsang souchong.
    • Finish
      86 86
Still some pepper, bonfire smoke, middle long. Some sweetness now, honey.

Another very overpriced Bunna. Not bad at all but just not worth the money. I liked the Bunna 2003 PX as much as this one and that one was much cheaper upon release.

Upon further investigation, this is only 87. From a high 92, to 89 and now 87. The tastes have gone flat and remains constant.
