  1. HammerHead scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Great bottling considering the price level of this bourbon (around €35). Also it pretty much lacks one of those typical let downs I often come across in this style of whiskey: wet cardboard.
    • Nose
      87 87
Powerful but still soft. Caramel, toffee, brown sugar, cocoa butter, raisins, stewed pears, some rye notes, crème brûlée, quite nutty (macadamia, hazelnut), spices like cinnamon and cardamom.
    • Taste
      85 85
A thick and creamy mouthfeel, caramel, toffee, nutty, just a slight rye note, clear oak wood, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove and spicy pepper.
    • Finish
      85 85
Long and spicy: caramel, more rye shining through, nutmeg, clove and some charred wood.

  4. Drum scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

Very nice, as if I were standing in the middle of the candy bar or candy shop.
    • Nose
Very sweet with caramel, vanilla, forest honey, toffee and orange. Milder and sweeter on the nose without water.
    • Taste
Sweet and warm with water with a very oily mouthfeel. Caramel, vanilla and a sweet pipe tobacco. Add orange and Jaffa biscuits again.
    • Finish
Short to medium length and warm. A nice mildness with caramel and popcorn.

This is a barrel proof bourbon at a very friendly price.
It's a pity that in taste, he is slightly behind competitors like Eagle rare 10, Maker's 46.

This wild turkey rare breed is a very old-fashioned expression, without the pleasingly creamy sweetness, but instead full of charred cask aromas and even a dark berry-like taste.
And the taste is good, not irritating,
Affordably priced and fragrant, this whiskey is a great deal.

Unfortunately, I really like the unique creamy sweetness of Buffalo trace distillery products, so the unique retro feel of this bottle of wild turkey did not impress me too much.
Well, I actually know it's purely a bias due to personal preference.

The taste score is 85 and the price doesn't affect the score.
    • Nose
Full of caramel aromas of wood, followed by caramel, roasted corn aromas.
A little closer to smell, there is a kind of taste like cocoa beans.
58% abv creates a powerful aroma.
    • Taste
Dry mouth, with a pronounced mint note, the main flavours are wood burnt, a touch of cream, corn, caramel, cocoa and plenty of pepper.
It didn't taste too sweet, and the 58% abv didn't cause any discomfort, it was delicious.
    • Finish
Throat is full of burnt wood pain and a smell of sweet corn, a little bit of cocoa nibs.

I generally liked the 101 a lot and thought I'd give this one a shot! Oh my Lord! Got into bourbons lately and I can proudly say that 101 is my go to daily sipper right now. This one SHOULD be my daily sipper but unfortunately here in Hungary these are very scarce..I was lucky I found one because according to our major drink stores we don't have them for more than over a year on the shelves...
    Let's get into it.....
    • Nose
Powerful but very smooth at the same time, the typical Wild Turkey notes, caramel, tofee, rye spices, honey, notes of oak, menthol, candy, orange peel, full and very pleasant
    • Taste
Bursts of vanilla, caramel, honey, rye spices, some oakiness, nutmeg, cinnamon, orange peel, amazing taste!
    • Finish
Very long and very pleasant, spicy and sweet, vanilla and oakiness lingering at the end

Delicious. You get a lot of bourbon for little money. In contrast to other large cask bourbons, the oak never becomes too dominant on the nose or in the taste. It is pleasant that there is no glue note to be found. The nose is really great. Caramel and the spices are a great combination that runs from the nose to the finish. For less than € 30 you can get a really nice malt here.
    • Nose
The Bourbon presents itself with a reddish amber tone in the Premium Snifter. A really oily film clings to the edge of the glass. Absolutely no glue note - this is very positive. At the beginning, when the alcohol has faded a bit, there is a pleasant rye flavor. Then it becomes very sweet, caramel and vanilla flavors. This is accompanied by scents like on a flower meadow, yes, a little perfume. The rye - the spiciness - remains present in the background, but not excessive, always nice in the second lane. The 58.4% alcohol keeps coming up with a slight tingling in the nose if you smell too deep into the glass. With water it initially becomes spicier in the nose, then the vanilla increases.
    • Taste
Without water it becomes pleasantly sweet in the mouth. Then the spices like nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves become very intense. The oak answers. It tingles in the mouth, but not too hard. Vanilla is also available. With water it becomes sweeter, the spices like nutmeg and co. Become more intense. The pepper note decreases. The floral / perfume-like aromas from the nose are now also present in the mouth.
    • Finish
Aromatic oak with vanilla in a medium-length finish. The spice mixture is still present. Tobacco or maybe even more black tea flavors are now also available in the flavor mix. Nice and warm in the throat and stomach.

Lot of vanilla and charred oak – very typical Bourbon
    • Nose
      84 84
Vanilla, honeydew, green fruits, carambole, little herbal, austere, wet hay
    • Taste
      85 85
Punchy, little oily, good sweetness, little fruity, more vanilla, more herbal, charred oak, little medicinal, menthol, spicy, cinnamon, little nutty
    • Finish
      83 83
Long, burning, more herbal, medicinal, peppermint, little teaish notes – water recommended

A super bourbon with an unbeatable price-performance ratio.
    • Nose
Initially tingles in the nose due to the high alcohol content. As soon as this has evaporated a bit, it becomes very mild and sweet. Lots of coconut. Intense dark
and lightly burnt caramel. Some cooling menthol. In addition, a little chocolatey and spicy oak. A touch of leather.
    • Taste
Wonderful oily consistency. Intense and aromatic. Fills the whole mouth. Strongly spicy. Lots of oak, leather and dark chocolate. Dried orange. Some pepper and black tea.
    • Finish
Long and warm. Pleasantly spicy and dry.

  20. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

He put me back in a beautiful memory and that is what whiskey should ideally do, probably well made in terms of craftsmanship, but unfortunately we do not become good friends in terms of taste and I probably never really become a friend of bourbon, in the evening in a bar, maybe even with an ice cube, I would definitely not reject it
    • Nose
I am not an experienced bourbon drinker, which is why glue sticks in my nose here for the first time, sweet, corn, herbal, a bit like an herbal tea, fresh, vanilla, yes like a somewhat artificially sweetened tea, if you get into it quite pleasantly , some tobacco, I drank the last bourbon on the edge of a mountain road in Arizona and I just feel like I'm there straight away, for that alone it was worth it, then glue, also turpentine, not so biting now, but it triggers this association, coconut, with a lot of good will you can also call it marzipan
After the first sip, the nose is much more vanilla, less herbs, so more catchy for me, a trace of iodine
    • Taste
Intense, herbs, again tea or almost sauna infusion, sweet, alcohol is surprisingly well integrated, a little vanilla, but this sauna-herb note dominates, I don't like herbs in whiskey, especially in taste, but I wouldn't now describe as a mistake (only for me personally ;-))
    • Finish
Coconut, holds a long time, still herbs, sweet, you have to like that, then it fits, I probably won't become a fan anymore

Im not a bourbon person. Still I would recommend this one to any person, who loves them. Its 58,4 % makes it an excellent deal.
    • Nose
      Sweetnes, syrupy. Fresh wind.
    • Taste
      Sweetness, corn, syrup.
    • Finish
      Some corn sweetness again.

Caramel, currants and raisins, marzipan, pepper, nuts.
    • Taste
      87 87
A full soft whiskey, but firm on alcohol, sweet, nuts, spicy, orange, natural mint and tobacco, honey.
    • Finish
      86 86
A long finish and warming, again nuts, spices, pepper.

  25. Defeatless scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

A good and not so classic bourbon.
    Very high price-quality ratio!
    • Nose
      88 88
Little glue, dark spices, little acetone, so this one needs to breath a little first.
Later more spices like cardamom and coriander.
With water: Way milder, more creamy, speculaas (dutch cookie), cardamom and other herbs.
    • Taste
      87 87
Glue and grainy. Quite 'hot' from the alcohol. Will need water. Little sweet and sour.
With water: the sourness fades away a lot and makes place for quite some dark spices, just as in the nose. There is still some sour note in the background.
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium-long length. Quite sour to start with and leaves a warm feeling.
With water: Initially some sour notes with classic bourbon hints. Caramel and vanilla. Fades away a bit 'fresh' like mint/kampher notes.

  26. Cask1988 did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

A really nice Bourbon on the spiced side of the palate. Nice and strong flavoured.
    • Nose
Needs water to reveal itself and also ease down a bit. Sweet and sour. Lots of sweet and heavy spices, caramel fudge and honey. Of course there is the distinctive Bourbon nose but I find it a lot less corn orientated. There is even a trace of lemon in it. Nice twist
    • Taste
Strong alcoholic punch. To much for me to enjoy neat. With water more balanced immediately. It’s soft and honey-like. Bittersweet taste. Taste remains somewhat closed.
    • Finish
Without water short and intens. Fresh oak casks come through the most. With water it gets way more pleasant to swallow. It gives a long, creamy, buttery soft finish that goes on and on for quite a while. Splendid! Hints of charred wood, nutmeg and clove at the end.

  27. Alex Fridays scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

    Colour: amber
Nose: smooth with honey, popcorn, cocoa, toffee, chocolate, furniture varnish, cream brûlée, vanilla, marmalade and light rye notes.
Mouth: sweet with oak dryness, varnish, spices, caraway seeds, rye, vanilla and cream brûlée notes.
Finish: long, spices, vanilla, pepper, dryness, marzipan and chocolate notes.
Rare Breed is a very good balanced and tasty bourbon.
