    Tasted in the evening (11th whisky)

    Visit to the hospital on the nose, on the palate, we are on the trail of gum on the asphalt, but it remains soft and supple although it is raw cask. Young but well coated. Cereals, pepper.
    Final, very sweet and long!

    The German shops "Japanwhiskys" and "Whiskytempel" have announced a joint LAPHROAIG single Cask bottling. "Obsession" marks the first part of a three-part series that is scheduled for release by 2020.

    For the artwork of "Obsession" they worked for the first time with the renowned Canadian art photographer Alex Maxim. "We had the idea of literally capturing a beautiful angel in a bottle and Alex did a wonderful job. The two following bottlings "Pulse" and "Passion" will also be realized in this style, whereby the bottlers will still keep quiet about which barrels from which distillery will be bottled for this.

    "With the "Chichibu - Japan Warrior Series No. 1" we were able to fill a wonderfully crisp young Japanese last year and when this Laphroaig barrel fell in front of our feet a few months ago, we couldn't say no. The young Islay Wild has a strong start, plenty of smoke, but is still very easy to drink. The 52.4% barrel strength, bourbon barrel matured, underlines the light, yet intense LAPHROAIG distillery character. We deliberately decided against a finish in sherry or wine barrels, as it is, if we wanted to see it in the bottle."

    This is nonetheless an interesting found, very much like a new make spirit, very austere. I love the design of the bottle.

    • Nose
      Smoke; has some of the coal and smoked bacon; sweet, slightly floral in the background, brings a maritime flair;
    • Taste
      Smoky, Campfire; maritime (slightly salty with a slight iodine note) Sweet, tasty, smoke dominates, but is totally tasty, malty
    • Finish
      Campfire, sweet, malt, delicious smoke, always sweet, light wood note, I really like it.

    TASTING NOTES:
    Nose: crisp and powerful, very direct Laphroaig with coal smoke and smoked ham. A bit of almonds and grapefruit in the background. A hint of vanilla and apples, slightly grassy and buttery as well.

    Mouth: Attack of peat smoke, coal and sea air, impressive strength, very punchy. Starts slightly zesty, then getting wider with some citrus sweetness and pepper. Hints of eucalyptus. Lemon and walnut notes follow.

    Finish: clean, smokey and slightly resinous. Hints of salted fish.
