A remarkably dense aroma of molten fudge, toffee apples, brandy snaps and warm marshmallows strikes at first. Underneath all this gooey sweetness lurks fresh earth, trail mix and suggestions of sultanas and satsuma peel. Golden syrup, ginger bread and brown sugar emerge with a little time. Water brings orange oils, a touch of old ointment, spicy quince paste and waxy honeycomb. The palate is - like the nose - lusciously sweet with notes of aged muscat, treacle sponge, sugary tea and hint of high quality VSOP cognac. A nutty chunk of Snickers bar sloshes about in the background. With reduction there emerges brown bread with chive butter and lemon marmalade. Also clove rock, strawberry bon bons and a lingering caraway-scented fade.
