An amazing taste experience! This HP is quite similar to the 30's with 48.1%, but this one has exactly what I missed a bit at the 30's: Cask strength! And exactly this higher alcohol content gives the whisky an extra boost! Positively, I would also rate the three years lower maturity. Thus, the barrel is not as dominant as the 30s HP and the Brennereicharakter comes for my term a little more to bear. All in all: a wonderful malt, where SV has chosen a mad barrel. Unfortunately, this pleasure has its price. Good 500 euros are a proud price. However, if you look at the current prices for the 25 or 30 HP with 48.1% each, you can certainly speak of a worthwhile investment.
Given the 1984 Linkwood (95 points) and the 1989 Glenfarclas (95 points), this malt joins my personal top 3 of 2018. I get 94 points for the first tasting - and I see him in front of the other two at the moment. Maybe there is more time for the tasting even more :)

Intensive! Sherry, heather, eucalyptus, aromatic oak, herbs ... gradually overripe apricots, oranges and figs are added. A touch of croquant and honey slowly mixes with. In the background is the subtle Highland Park-typical smoke that harmoniously blends in with an old leather armchair and an old cigar box hand in hand. The alcohol is very well integrated with 52% and carries the aromas wonderfully. A fantastic nosing!

Powerful HP is on the tongue. A true taste explosion! Sherry! Sweet! Oranges, heather, honey, spices, oak, coffee, dark cocoa, wooden box, a touch of tobacco and ubiquitous, the fine typical Highland Park is typical smoke

Very long-lasting and warming. Heather, tender smoke, sweetness, oranges, dark chocolate. Wonderful! Salivation is stimulated. The sweet flavors stick to the tip of the tongue, while in the back of the mouth a delicate bitterness and acridness slowly spread. Everything harmonizes wonderfully with each other until the mouth becomes slowly drier and leaves an indescribable "perfect" feeling behind.

Highland Park 1991 SV ... what can I say, just sensationally good, but unfortunately also very expensive. I will divide the bottle :-)

    Absolutely great malt.
For me on the verge of perfection.

Clearly a great whisky ... compared with the Highland Park 25 48.1% and the Highland Park 29 GM. For me, he wins the second place behind the Highland Park 29 GM ... because of its sulphurous notes at the beginning of nosing and while groping. These will fade and irritate you, but they are very noticeable to me. Anyone who has difficulties with this should prefer to drop the finder ... who likes it will love him. For example, the smell of the smoked ham is amazing ... There is a lot to discover ... but before that he should get some air to breathe ... a great experience and who has the opportunity should try it

First, sulfurous, what goes by, dried ham behind, matches followed by red berry fritters, oranges, cinnamon and yummy tobacco, followed by cherries, rose petals, vanilla and cream caramel. It is followed by apples, sweet cream and again tobacco and floral notes ... a minimal smoke is noticeable, then dates, raisins, toffee and herbs ... sensational ... I could always go on like this ...

Slightly sulphurous at first, but then disappears again, but the tongue makes a little furry, followed by light pepperiness, fruity, then honey sweetness, heather, oranges, delicious peach and dark chocolate

Oak, delicious espresso, peach, bitter oranges I love very much, dark chocolate, honey and vanilla sweet ... the finish is very long and later dry ... delicious

Well I get sulphur notes on the notes and quite dominant. The taste and finish are more friendly then I would initially expect from the nose. Nice if you like this profile but also a very nice experience if you don't. Glad I was able to try it but wouldn't buy a full bottle. Initial nose was scoring low but this is nice!

Sherry, sulphur and slowly evolving into red fruits like strawberry and very ripe red berries. Tobacco, leather and old wood. It doesn't really develop into anything else for me. It does smell old though and reminds me of some older versions of Macallan, Strathisla and Ardbeg. The more I sip the less sulphur notes I detect. At a later stage some old wood and smokey.

Much nicer then the nose suggest on first tasting, sweet elements of honey, strawberries, little bit citric. Dried fruits leading towards stewed brambles and strawberries. Nice citric elements! Really adds a fresh element to this whisky. Leather a bit of oak and chocolate.
    • Finish

Quite a long finish, mostly on sweet chocolate, some honey and cream. Citric notes, oranges which adds a very nice additional layer. Smoke in the finish. Boy this is developing very nice.

This is nothing like the sulphur, alcohol aggressive, young single casks recently from Highland Park. This is well aged, tasty and pleasant. I would still not buy one at RRP.
    • Nose
Well fool me once. If I had this during a blind tasting I could have guessed an aged heavily sherried Islay (most likely Ardbeg). Intense peat and sherry. The sherry is sweet and intense. A lovely sweet tobacco not behind the sherry.
    • Taste
Definitely a Highland Park - Textbook smokey HP.The sherry is initially in the background. The tobacco notes is in here as well together with a fruity sherrynote.
    • Finish
Sweet, surprisingly no bitterness (impressive). Honey and figs. Tobacco leaves now and a more grassy profile now. Warming and coating.

Without the sulphury notes this would be 90 points whisky for me, still good.
