    • Nose
      91 91
herbal and spicy.. coffee liqueur.. alcohol is just a friendly buzz deep inside the nostrils.. some dirty notes, too, around petrol and engine oils.. dark old rum and muscovado sugar.. smoke from a pine-wood fire in the forest, early morning
    • Taste
      91 91
bitter sweet coco and mint, the medicine spreads quickly on the tongue.. incredible, multi layered interplay between bitter and sweet sensations.. sweet nudges ahead, but balanced by tart.. everything is in balance
    • Finish
      92 92
long, echoing waves of vibrant spice.. some delicate, floral notes remind us that this is, however, Bowmore.. the smoke becomes noticeable.. a soft whisper of peat..

with water: it doesn't really need it, but tolerates the addition of water very well, it has a little more sweetness on the nose and the black currant comes even more to the fore. I strongly recommend playing with some water

Conclusion: What an ingenious barrel. Not only the color is reminiscent of the BB, even if the grapefruit note of the old Black Bowmores is only present here. All in all, an experience that somehow justifies the current secondary market prices - and you really can't say that too often about a bottling these days.
    • Nose
      92 92
Dark berries, especially black currant, blackberry, grapefruit, bitter orange, chocolate, sweetish smoke, which also has a slightly flowery effect, subtle salt, some spice (cloves), fresh wood/bushes, alcohol very well integrated, everything very dense and complex
    • Taste
      92 92
Chocolate, dark sweetness, smoke, grapefruit, currant, oak and a hint of clove
    • Finish
      91 91
forever long, black currant again, smoke, salt, clove, dry, bitter orange, cocoa, old leather, cedar

Great (old?) Oloroso barrel. Brings lots of earthy and herbal aromas. The bottling is more salty than smoky

Intense and complex with lots of dried fruits, gentle smoke. Somehow reminds me of old madeira...
      I love it!

Needs a little water. Very complex with different types of dried fruits, sherry, lots of dark chocolate, coffee and gentle smoke all around...
    • Finish
      92 92
Dry, again the gentle smoke and some nuttiness and looong...

So ... an absolutely not overrated barrel, I think.

Really great taste experience and therefore inexpensive.

What I’m missing in contrast to some other bowmores,
is the stinky rubber (by the way, my wife disagrees on this point ;-)) It is not tasty - sweet. For me it has no sulfur and no violets.

But does that bother me? No, not at all.

There is the darkest chocolate and black currants as if freshly picked from the bush.
Dry, unobtrusive sherry and still black currants after more than 20 minutes in the finish.

Delicious. A little water is recommended.

An excellent, very balanced, chocolate-smoky, intense and also very complex Bowmore. Swims pretty well.
So should the default OAs like to fail ...
    • Nose
      91 91
Sherry, a hint of undergrowth, yellow dried fruits, dry smoke, dark chocolate, earthy. Very deep.
    • Taste
      91 91
Harmonious onset, sweet, fruity sherry (red berries, raisins, figs), dried fruit, rich dry smoke, ashes, some undergrowth, plus the typical blackcurrants. Cotton candy and a lot of cocoa. Has fire and gradually becomes rounder.
Tight and concentrated, for chewing. Gets drier.
    • Finish
      93 93
      Grandiose, long, harmonious finish.
Again, blackcurrants, raisins and figs, plus the dry campfire smoke, lots of cocoa, dark chocolate, engine oil and a hint of tar.

He needs time, he needs concentration, you should not try him in between times at a fair (which I tried, but then I rather bottled up the rest and now tried at home in peace). Definitely not a simple malt, definitely not a bad malt and definitely as extraordinary as you can hope for a handfilled.
    • Nose
      90 90
wow, of course, it is heavily loaded with sherry, quite dry, fruity, almost as if one smells of a red wine, easily harmonizing smoke, raisins, with time he opens up and gets spicier, almost Christmas, clearly oak, wet tobacco, This is personally too much and too focused, somehow it is not fun to spend a long time with the Verriechen, after the first sip suddenly clearly chocolate and although surprisingly whole milk, overall now much more pleasant, my nose has apparently needed something to get used to the invading flavors
    • Taste
      90 90
Wow, intense and full bodied, it goes on with a flavor bomb, massive sherry, dry, a lot of oak, almost chewing, espresso, concentrated raisins, the second sip, I also go through faster and can now smoke directly in combination with the enjoy fierce Sherrynoten, the chocolate is also here, but in the dark version
    • Finish
      89 89
behind the smoke comes through the wall of massive barrel influence, now also quite intense, is still tobacco, slightly nutty and the raisin extract continues, very long lingering, after some time I have to think again of red wine
