[Tasting session - n°11 - quick note] We had this one without knowing it was this one. That is to say, it was under another livery : seemingly a special edition, with a handwritten label adorned with the woolf/sung label. Since woolf/sung is the compagny behind artful dodger whiskies and since the distillation date, age, and proof were rigorously the same, I conclude they're the same whisky. Well, enough said : it's excellent, majestically austere Clynelish. Might score higher if tasted alone and with a bit more alcohol control on the palate.

Some acidic red currants, dairy cream, then the wax arrives, some dried flowers, a minuscule hint of lychee, and quite a lot of paraffin. The whole is quite dry.

Very paraffiny but intially very strong on alcohol. Then back on its feet with a bith of white peach, some rice pudding and again a lot of paraffin. Very intense, very austere, with a mineral background. Second sip confirms that this is a massively austere Clynelish.

Very austere, very mineral, incredibly long with limestone, pastilles Vichy, and a superb note of dry blue cheese upon the end. Superb finale, extremely austere.

    Serge:
This is a new, albeit rather Dickensian name. I mean, Artful Dodger, not Clynelish. Colour: straw. Nose: it is a vertical Clynelish, dry, mineral, paraffiny, narrow, perfect. No, no literature today. With water: ink, hessian and porridge coming out. Quintessential Clynelish nose. Mouth (neat): totally perfect and utterly typical lemony/mineral/waxy Clynelish, clean as a blade, without any wood in the way. With water: lovely touches of sweeter herbs, lime, and wulong tea. And always some citrus. Finish: long, totally clean and fresh – sadly, it’s also quite refreshing, and I know some friends who would quaff this as if it was water. Comments: nothing more to say, this is purely perfect.
    SGP:452 - 90 points.

Wonderful Clynelish. Especially the nose is stunning. Fruits, and wax and minerals. Fantastic.
I still don‘t get the point of 500ml bottles though. Always feels a bit like cheating.

A classic Clynelish with sour apple, waxes, intense palate, lemon oils and a medium finish.
