wool coat closet, red berry compote, red ale, licorice and vanilla extract, bready Challah, daisies, beery. Some brown bowl and a bit of caraway and rye. A bit of musk and must. Boxwood, banana, papaya and dried passionfruit. A touch of white raspberry and apricots.

On the second tasting, fennel, hops, applesauce and Martinelli‘s, then some candles and lotion; waxed wood, vanilla cream soda, and something a bit vegetal. Then, caramel creams and crème brûlée. Honeys and hops come in waves with a bit of banana bread in the background Manuka honey and some small pink flowers. Oxidation has brought out more honeyed, caramel, and some deeper notes.

With water, rye and caraway and a bit of wax, like claim wish. Caramel, deeper floral notes of rose oil or some thing. It’s hoppy too, almost some hemp, honey. With more water: coffee and some sourness more hemp, raspberries and roses. Aged vanilla beans.

malty, some hops and honey, caraway, rye. Pebbly a big burst of Ale-y hoppy floral sweetness. Very malty. With water more mild a bit of stone fruit, oily rock dust. With water the Chichibu distillate emerges much more a bit of that powdery pebbly slightly floral or perfumed background to it.

round, malty, a bit of beers and honey, some vanilla, oily and long. With water it adds rounded pineapple and dried mango notes to the finish

This is comprised of 7 years maturation in bourbon with a 4 year IPA finish. “Oaww!”, exclaims Dave Broom. Whilst walking away smiling, he turns his head and casually offers to the sky “Whisky of the Festival!”. I proceed with anticipation and haste, as we are nearing the end of the day.

N: Possesses such vibrant & candid toffee & caramel notes, it’s untrue - like someone melted some Werther’s Originals into my glass.
T: Caramel, toffee-d pear [apparently one of the distillery character notes], and an illusion of some Mizunara and/or chestnut wood vibes.
    F: Plenty of interesting nuttiness.
C: Cracking stuff, this stout-inspired cask works a treat.

    Scores an A-
