Whisky Reviews for Mortlach 22-year-old ElD

Nice dark color, which already indicates the Sherryfasseinfluss.
In the nose (after adding some water, diluted to about 46%) wonderful intense sherry scent.
Pleasant taste of raisins, heather honey, only light sweetness, no smoke, no sulfur, for me absolutely perfect.
Finish: very long, intense, pleasant and only very light bitterness (espresso, dark chocolate).
Conclusion: great complex and delicious malt. Compared to the Bunnahabhain 27 from the same series, the Mortlach 22 appeals to me even more.

    A real heavy weight.
    • Nose
Wauw, dark and powerful with chocolate, cigars, ceder wood, coffee beans and dried fruit.
    • Taste
Loads and loads of chocolate, Sacher torte, coffee, vanilla, liquorice, spices and pepper.
    • Finish
Like chocolate factory, long aftertaste, sweetness is overwhelming , heavy. A dram for a desert?

    twe says:

"One of a pair of releases showing a different side to the Single Malts of Scotland range – it's a small-batch vatting rather than a single cask. It's four casks of whisky, three ex-bourbon hogsheads and a sherry butt from a couple of different vintages. The sherry butt's huge dried-fruit character has been tempered by the bourbon, but it's still a big and rich sherried dram, with softer orchard fruit and gentle American-oak spice."
