wonderful meaty and complex with interesting edges - I like it very much
    • Nose
      90 90
spicy broth, sherry, dark chocolate, red berry porridge with cream, a trace of frankincense, beef bresaola
    • Taste
      90 90
Beef, light hint of smoke, cassis, again the frankincense, dry berry sweetness, slightly astringent quite pleasant and appropriate woodiness - very appetizing
    • Finish
      89 89
Dryness and sweet sherry - remains in the cheek pouches for a very long time

Nice dark color, which already indicates the Sherryfasseinfluss.
In the nose (after adding some water, diluted to about 46%) wonderful intense sherry scent.
Pleasant taste of raisins, heather honey, only light sweetness, no smoke, no sulfur, for me absolutely perfect.
Finish: very long, intense, pleasant and only very light bitterness (espresso, dark chocolate).
Conclusion: great complex and delicious malt. Compared to the Bunnahabhain 27 from the same series, the Mortlach 22 appeals to me even more.

    Tasted in a whisky festival

Big fat spirit, but not in harmony with the sherry, in my opinion. Sandalwood, red wine vinegar, unripe red fruits, spicy oak. Not my style.

This whisky needs a bit of water so the metallic taste goes away. With water you get nice dark chocolate and leather notes with rainsins very well balanced. Very long finish with some oak but the chocolate stays and stays.

Lots of spicy spices, sweet broth, red fruits and chocolate. All 4 barrels came together into a rather strange whisky, not bad but definitely demanding. Well, the nickname The Beast of Dufftown didn’t come out of nowhere …..I found a little too much sulfur in the aroma for me.
    • Nose
The first thing we find is sweetness and spicy spices. Apples, perfume, currant jam and some caramel. Rose filling and orange peel. These sweet aromas mingle with sweet broth, umami and something metallic. Nougat and some sulfur in the background.
    • Taste
sweet and spicy. Red fruits, honey, caramel, chocolate and a drop of lime juice. Lots of chocolate. Something metallic, maybe a little bit of smoke? Intense flavor which taste more dry now.
    • Finish
burnt caramel candies, coffee with chocolate, red fruit and a bitter finish. Strong and long.

it needs at least av couple of minutes in the glas to open up. Obviously sherry notes in this on the nose, dark chocolate and dried fruits. kinda litle oaky aswell.
    • Taste
      90 90
spicyness hits you immediately, dried fruits and the chocolate is back. kind of beefy and chunky, like you could chew it. it's spicy sweet, a nice body
    • Finish
      89 89
medium to long finish with heavy tastes that's fading away slowly. mostly of dried fruits, chocolates and sweetnes.

      all around a fine dram!
