Very tasty whisky, one of the best standart 12. Splendid stuff. If you can buy it on sale - grab as much as yu can. Mix of chocolatte with citrus oranges.

At first, I thought the smell was off. It released only musty notes: Wet paper, foul melon, driftwood. To enjoy this whisky, I recommend a very flat-based glas and some time to let the whisky breathe. Then the musty notes become weaker and unveil more pleasant notes.
    • Nose
      70 70
At first try: Ugh, I don't want to drink this.

In the proper glas and after letting it rest in the glas for 10 minutes: Overripe banana, melon, vanilla and honey. Generally very sweet. Only a hint of malt. No alcohol.
    • Taste
      82 82
Sweet, honey, vanilla, sherry and modestly tangy. A little bit of cinnamon.
    • Finish
      80 80
      Relatively short. Sherry and sweet.

Amber color. Slightly oily structure in the glass.
    • Nose
      83 83
At first you feel the influence of Sherry, rather dry, most likely Oloroso. A bit of caramel. Red fruit, not that fresh. Strawberries and even more cherries. The nose is not very "puffing", rather hidden. Some milk chocolate over time. A pinch of spice and spices. Light sweetness. Over time, the nose opens more and more and is more and more volatile. More caramel on the other nose. Also vanilla.
    • Taste
      81 81
Lots of Sherry. Red fruit. Dark but not sweet cherries. Dark chocolate, cocoa. A note of sourness. Pretty oily. European oak, maybe so saturated with Sherry, but not necessarily the first fill.
    • Finish
      83 83
A pinch of spices, light spice. Cinnamon. Dessert chocolate. Surprisingly, for this class of whisky, a long finish.

This bottle is so great just right after first opened.
Oxidation(or aeration) makes this bottle worse and worse.
I recommend you to drink this bottle within no later than 3 months.

When first opened, melon and tropical fruit note is so sweet and magnificent.
But after 3 months, malty, dirt, leather note is getting dominant and ruins the whisky. Many of my friends agree.

It's better than I thought, but is it full sherry? Watermelon white, orange white delicious
The vanilla goes up smoothly and the finish isn't that great.

    • Nose
Sweetness, vanilla, some dried fruit, sherry
    • Taste
      Mild, sweet, vanilla, sherry, chocolate
    • Finish
Sweetness, mild, oaky, becoming drier, slightly bitter

  9. 11insomnium scored this whisky 77 points Expert Senior

The whisky shows no immaturity or off notes, but lacks intensity and more complex notes. Compared to the Glenrothes Maker's Cut, it is significantly milder with less spice, but more harmonious and without spicy notes.
    • Nose
Mild freshness with a light, fruity sweetness, some citrus and pear
    • Taste
Sweet entry with some vanilla, harmonious but simple, mild and flat, minimal pear
    • Finish
Very short, delicately sweet and minimally tart

  10. Osir1es scored this whisky 78 points Member Senior

Whisky with a good sherry taste, but without any zest in a long tasting, recommended for 25-30 euros
    • Nose
      80 80
Sherry, vanilla, some dried fruit, candy or mint freshness (but only in the first glass)
    • Taste
      78 78
All the same oloroso sherry, sweet and sour, caramel, a little vanilla, medium oak, does not aggravate the taste.
    • Finish
      76 76
      Weak, medium, sweet, but one-sided

Sample. Pours a medium gold, but not that briliant. Scent is tired, wet oak. expressive, bit pineapple, just very... not bright. Damp cellar. Taste is sharp, starts surprisingly boozy, for 'only' 40 ABV. Taste is better than the scent. I get pleasurefull oakyness here, not the damp cellar kind. Tad fruity (pineapple comes to mind again). Oloroso-wood (?) dryness, bit nutty as well. very decent whisky (still, don't love the aroma though). perhaps a bit booze-forward . not troublesome, but worth noting I guess.

    • Nose
      75 75

    • Taste
      76 76

  15. The_Osprey scored this whisky 77 points Expert Senior

Glenrothes 12 yo Soleo Collection 40%.

Pale dark golden if that makes sense. There's not a lot of colour saturation, but what's there is dull/dark.

Aroma is candied, pick 'n' mix bag, slight stove gas, pink mice sweets, slightly vegetal and slightly buttery.

Taste is light, soft, a little underpowered. Not lacklustre as such - it has just about enough at the abv not to be too flat and watery ... but it's very borderline. Slightest struck match. Faintly buttery. Increasingly peppery. Watery milk with white pepper. Slight oaky bitterness. No heat at all. Any sherry character is subtle. Maybe some lingering charred wood.

This is fairly disappointing. It's fine, I suppose, but Glenrothes makes some good whisky and I'm not sure they're doing themselves a great service with putting this out as their flagship whisky. Needs some better casks and a better bottling strength. 3.2/77

Well, this one is pretty basic, but easy to drink. Smooth and lightweight. The kind of whisky you can drink with your friends who usually drinks beer or vodka whithout regretting wasting the juice. I wouldn't say it is too sweet.
Nothing to complaint about really, especially considering the pricetag. I wouldn't say it is too sweet. But rating here is a bit high to my oppinion.

  21. lys1 scored this whisky 78 points Member Senior

Plain, uncomplicated, mild and not very memorable. Diluted sweetness, malt and a little spice. There are 12-year-olds in the same price range who did far better than this. This is not something I have come to try hard southern to taste again, and it is certainly not something I will buy.

It slipped past Glendronach 12 as a favorite whisky! Absolutely delicious, intense, complex, uncomplicated and wonderfully balanced.

Edit: The bottle is empty and I have rarely enjoyed a bottle so much and mourned it so much. The Glenrothes 12 year old Soleo is now my absolute favorite whisky. The whisky is perfectly balanced and at its exact peak of maturity. Extraordinary from my point of view.

It's not bad for twelve. I have compared Benromach 15 and are quite similar in taste. But this is not so mature.
    • Nose
Milk chocolate, chocolate candies. Sweetness almost to the art. In the background some earthy tones, pickled cucumbers. Fruit - oranges.
    • Taste
In the footsteps of fragrance. Sweetness after chocolate is not so dominant here. But there is more malt, caramel and creamy. Earthy tones alternate with cream.
    • Finish
      Malt-woody-sweet. Shorter.

Medium. Oak, coffee, fudge and some fruit.

N- Oozes of quality seasoned sherry that are bright, clean and lifting with richness despite at only 40%. Nose teasing with wood fitting before spices and whole green peppercorn fragrant emerged. (86/20)

P- Shortbread and bitter chocolate with coffee by the garden. Hint of earth for balanced and relaxing mouthfeel. (86/20)

F- Medium, afternoon coffee break, adequate richness with creaminess consistency and bitter twist. (86/20)

B/B- 86/20 Reasonably good quality core range.

He is better than the 10s. The 12 has more of Glenrothes character and a little more sherry. He seems more intense overall. Nice to have had that in the glass. But I do not need a big bottle.

  39. Noface83 scored this whisky 82 points Specialist

Insanely horny (albeit easier) 12er standard. Very modern and yet unmistakably Glenrothes. For under 40 EUR just top and a buy recommendation if you like it sweet (with spicy twist on the tongue).
    • Nose
      84 84
Damn sweet (freshly opened Haribo Goldberry wrap), grapes and wet grass, some Oloroso sherry, vanilla, slightly earthy background (with a hint of sulfur), no alcohol and no oak in the nose - sweet and pleasing
    • Taste
      82 82
Supple but now a little tingling with the alcohol, bright fruits (very fresh), vanilla, dry sherry sweetness (slightly watered Oloroso) and light oak spice (pepper), stronger and spicy than the nose suggests. Surprises something and stands in contrast to the nose and the finish.
    • Finish
      80 80
Good finish - again dry Oloroso, pepper, bitter oak, a hint of cinnamon. The sweetness rears up again and struggles with the bitterness. Short but very tasty.

yes, that's a great malt, compared to 10y and Makers that's the best for me
    Glenrothes character comes through nicely
    • Nose
Sherry, raisins, sweetness, soften oak becomes more, slightly sulfur, later vanilla and caramel becomes stronger, grassy notes
    • Taste
full and soft on the palate
Oak, spicy, slightly bitter later good vanilla, sherry as it suits
    • Finish
      long
Sherry, sweet, oak, some caramel, slightly cherry
