Have considered getting this as I've had a couple of Sauternes matured whiskies that have been very good. like the BenRiach 15YO.
However, here the combination of Sauternes and peat are more of a clash than a match to me.
Happy to have tried it, so I can strike it off my wish list.
The nose is interesting.
Clear influence by the wine casks, it smells of Sauternes.
White fruits, mellon, grapes.
Underneath is a carpet of peaty smoke and light saltyness.
Nice rich mouthfeel.
Arrives with Sauternes, fruity sweetness.
Quickly followed by smoke, peat, salt. All much more dominant than on the nose.
To me this combination doesn't work too well.
Rather than melting into an interesting combination they seem to stay seperate and compete for attention.
A medium lenght finish where there is some fruit, but a rather pale and muted peat wins this battle of tastes in the very end.
