Nice old Glenlivet bottling. Fun to compare with modern days 12yo. Definitely better, more tasteful, and more mature.
    • Nose
This is a full and thick bodied nose for a 12yo at 40%! Today’s 12yo is all about apples and pears. This one is definitely not. Tropical fruits allover the place. It has the sweetness in a canned fruit mix kind of way. Apricot, lychees and a beautiful rather big hit of coconut. Pleasant nose.
    • Taste
Thin and watery. If only the taste was as good as the nose...floral taste, not so much fruity. Mild and easy accessible. It gives a little bit of everything; sweet, sour, salty, and a tad bitter. It serves the complete palate. No wonder this is one of those universally loved malts in the old days.
    • Finish
Rather short. Tropical fruitiness comes back again. Again the sweetness like in canned fruit mix. Again coconut. And also some woodspice.

A very pleasant dram! Would buy a full bottle if I had the chance. If only because Glenlivet 12 (modern version, was my first malt. It all went downhill from there on....

Had this one together with the older 15yo and 18yo. The nose of this 12yo was the less attractive, with this overripe fruit-thing.
In the taste it recovers, making it a little better than the 15yo.
Fun to have tasted these ones, but overall a little disappointing.

Pretty full nose, but it's a pretty unpleasant one, at least with some offnotes of overripe fruits, sour. Spicy, cinnamon.
    • Taste
      82 82
Light, hardly any pepper. Fruity and sweet, some peach and apricot, oranges, some vanilla and honey later on. Still a bit pale.
    • Finish

Now some more pepper and body, fruity and sweet still. Peach, honey, pretty long for only a 40% Abv.

    Nose:

Perfume, fruity and flowery. It has a kind of nose which isn't easy found in 'modern' whisky. I tend to find apricot, peaches and pineapple. Together with some wood-sweetness. It has an american oak finish, but this is not a modern style of finish. Not very vanilla-ed and honeyed.

Taste: Sweet, very gentle. A whisky everybody will love. It is sweet and fruity, like in canned fruit. A little pear juice. There is a hint of OBE in this one. Body:

Very smooth and a tad oily

    Finish:

Medium length. OBE to be found here. A hint of sour and the carboardy OBE again.

    Comments:

H2H with the 15 en 18yo from the same time period.

Body; Firm. Medium to full. Very smooth.
    • Nose
The typically  peachy bouquet  seems to be accentuated.
    • Taste
Rich and fruity, with more peat smoke than usual. Cooked peaches.
    • Finish
Creamy tastes. Vanilla. Some burnt-grass bitternes.
